MovedSo the stuff that I needed to get done pretty much got done. Friday morning I spent some time over at K's house watching bicycle racing with his housemate and participating in some friendly banter, as one does. Then I came back to the apartment, packed a box, sat still and thought for a few minutes, and got back in the car ( Read more... )

Was your dad on 202 just south of the Trader Joe's?

Also if you want to meet some nice crafty folks and/or want a local yarn store, let me know. I loved my Wilmington knit group.

Yes. But not yet, because I am still massively unsettled.

right! The TJ's was up there, past that Dupont and the Astra Zeneca near the PA border.

I left you a message on Ravelry with a link to the knit-night for whenever you want it. I figured it was a topical connection and when you wanted it, it'd be there.

Meanwhile I've made a quilt for the first time in my life.. It's a lot of (machine)sewing and I'm not even doing all the ironing that's supposed to be involved.

Getting there. Cooking helps. (So does having a kitchen trash can. YAY.)

You've been rather busy.

This may already be a non-issue, but I had good luck finding extremely short tension rods at Big Lots. They also had an assortment of curtain rods, although I wasn't in the market for those.

At some point, could I get your recipe for beef and barley soup? I need a good one for the crock pot. Absolutely no rush on that - it's a fall/winter food for me.

It's not really a recipe -- I put about 3/4 cup of barley, a cooked blade steak cut into cubes (Matthew had grilled it the night before: usually I get some sort of beef without bones and cut it up and cook it on the stove) and about 5 cups of water and some beef base into the crockpot, then cut up 3 carrots and 4 ribs of celery and an onion and cooked them all in some olive oil for a few minutes until the onion was soft, then added that to the crock pot, plus some thyme and garlic and peppercorns and two bay leaves. Set it on low and it was done at dinnertime.

Also, somehow I posted the recipe anonymously.

Target had short tension rods! I was happy, because I'm really good at finding my way to Target.

And I found a really long curtain rod at Joann. So I think I know what I need to know to hang curtains. This is a small thing, but it's a BIG small thing.
