Salmon bot?

So, until about fifteen minutes ago I had never heard of such a thing. A little before fifteen minutes ago I got a message from someone with the screen name HorizontalSalmon. They just sent a message that said hi. Well, that's what I thought anyway. After a few minutes of confusion it turns out they thought I'd just sent them a message that said hi. They insisted for a bit that I was a bot. At first I thought maybe they were, but I've seen my fair share of what are supposed to be interactive bots and they always fail at making decent conversation. While this person wasn't being real verbose I've never yet had a bot accuse me of being one myself or respond half so coherently. This person then linked me to a page talking about this Salmon bot. It turns out it's not a bot that talks to you, it's bot that relays you to other real people. Apparently from other accounts it doesn't always start you off on a nice foot like "Hi" but the screen name always shows up as something or other Salmon.

My first thought was, "This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. A bot that just relays you to another random human who your only connection to is that you both just updated your LJ or whichever other social site." but then I thought, "Actually, this is really goddamn cool. I'm having a totally random conversation with someone when I didn't expect to get online and talk to anyone at all." I've decided I like this thing. It provided me with at least a good fifteen minutes of entertainment so far and I'm still curious how such a program might work. I'm also concerned about any more malicious things it may be capable of and if some person is out there right now logging my every keystroke, but if it turns out to truly be benign then this is a really fascinating social experiment.

My initial buddy apparently got bored already. Time to post this one and see if it starts hitting consistently once it finds you or if it's just random.
