Hello

Will used to believe in destiny; not the way most people think of destiny, but insomuch as he knew that he was a common blacksmith who could never marry a woman above his station, no matter how much she wanted him. It was only when the roguish Captain Jack Sparrow who charted his own course sauntered into his life that Will came to see that he could take charge of his own destiny. That it did not have to be as they dictated. He would have confidently asked the Governor’s daughter for her hand in marriage after the encounter… that is, if she was still who he wanted. But Jack had also given Will the confidence to realize and go after who he truly wanted.

And so it was that Will found himself nursing a bottle of rum in a bar in Tortuga, not believing in destiny. It came as quite a surprise, then, when Jack showed up only moments after dusk the very night that Will had arrived. He would have blamed destiny, if only he still believed in it.

Jack was hungry, thirsty and horny, three things for which his beloved sea and Pearl had no remedy. Tortuga, on the other hand, was abundant in remedies for all three unpleasant sensations, despite its miserable lack of water and overabundance of sand. By process of elimination, Jack had decided to remedy ‘thirsty’ first, since his two favorite whores were still in a foul mood with him (and he was still reasonably certain that he didn’t deserve either slap, thank you very much), and food could always wait for rum in Jack’s not so humble opinion. Besides, many ladies of the evening could be found at the Faithful Bride, so Jack figured he could kill two birds with one proverbial stone. Gentlemen of the evening tended to make themselves more scarce, but Jack knew where to locate them should he be unsuccessful with the ladies of the Faithful Bride. ‘Hungry’ was still the least urgent sensation to eliminate; he’d been days without food before, and he’d learned to live with it. So he would find food after his thirst and lust had both been satisfied. His evening planned out, Jack strolled through the doors of the Bride, and stopped short right in the middle of the doorway at what he saw.

Their eyes locked and Will, damn it all, hesitated! His mind abandoned him and he altogether forgot why he was even there. Jack seemed to be suffering from the same malady, but shook himself from it much faster than Will and made his way over to where the former blacksmith was sitting. He made a point of looking around before asking “And where’s the lovely Mrs Turner this fine evening?” and then ordered himself a drink from a passing barmaid.

Will blinked several times before he managed to process the question. “Oh, uh… there is no Mrs Turner.”

Jack frowned, and then obviously misinterpreted the response. “I’m sorry to hear that, Lad.”

“Oh, no, Elizabeth is fine.” Will stumbled. This conversation had gone much more smoothly in his head. “Just… not married to me.”

“Ah, I knew it!” Jack exclaimed jovially. “A eunuch could never please a woman like Elizabeth. Unfortunate, but sadly true-”

“And what about you?” Will blurted. He wasn’t here to talk about Elizabeth.

“Could I ever please Elizabeth? Mate,” Jack smiled and held his arms out, and Will knew what was coming, “I’m Captain Jack Sparrow.”

“No, I mean, could a-” Will stopped himself just in time. Could a eunuch ever please you? What an absurdly ridiculous thing to say, especially considering that Will was most definitely not a eunuch! No, what Will had meant to say, was “Could I…” ever please you? For God’s sake, that sounded just as ridiculous! “Jack, could I join your crew?”

~.~.~.~.~

Of all the things the lad could have said in response to a eunuch joke, this was certainly the most unexpected. Could I join your crew? Jack had only hoped to be asked such a question after Will had rescued him from the gallows. Was he having that dream again? If so, they’d be stumbling up the stairs and into a rented room in no time, hands and mouth and bodies fumbling for contact, hunger and thirst long forgotten and lust about to be slaked…

Jack’s thoughts were interrupted when the barmaid returned with his drink. “Thanks, Darlin” he said as he took it. He turned his attention back to Will, who was still staring at him expectantly, and fully clothed to boot. Nope, definitely not dreaming. Clothes tended to disappear at around this point in time in Jack’s dreams. But what reason would Will have for wanting to join Jack’s crew outside of his dreams? And why in the name of Calypso was he not married to the bloody strumpet he’d been pining over the whole damn time Jack had known him?

As if reading Jack’s thoughts, Will anxiously continued. “I’m not a eunuch, but… I might as well have been for all the interest I had in Elizabeth. I suppose in a way you were right, what you said. But I wasn’t incapable, just unwilling.” Will shook his head, seeming to be treading on dangerous ground, and Jack couldn’t help but wonder… “Anyway, will you have me on your ship or not?”

Jack coughed. That question conjured up one hell of a mental image. And with Whatsherface out of the picture, he saw no reason to hide his desire. “I’d have you anywhere you wanted, Luv”

Will’s expression was simply priceless. Jack was sure that he couldn’t have made his advance any clearer, yet Will still seemed uncertain. “Thank you, Jack.”

“As they say, a friend in need of a position aboard another friend’s ship, because said friend is decidedly not in need of a female friend’s assets, is a very welcome friend indeed, to the second friend at least. Especially when the second friend also has needs which the first friend just might be in a position to satisfy.” There, that should have made Jack’s intentions perfectly clear. He stood and offered his hand to Will. “You hungry?”
