I have been a distracted, tense man. Not just today, but especially today. Here's the reason, as cut-and-pasted from my MySpace bulletin.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My daughter Miette was born at 10:55 and the main problem is that her lungs were flooded. This is usually the case during a birth, but with a C-section, there's no way for the baby to naturally work that out of her system. The first hour of Miette's life was very touchy and I hope I never experience anything that terrifying again. An hour later, when she'd miraculously stabilized already, one of the many doctors mentioned that it was a pretty big deal that she'd come around at all, let alone so soon.
Now she's fine, and will continue to be fine, but must be hooked up to breathing machines for another day or so (and needs to be in the hospital for another week, possibly). I have just one photo here: a shot taken shortly after her birth, when she wasn't yet hooked up to anything.
Visitors tomorrow would be more than welcome, although I don't have any idea when Miette will be out of the Special Care Unit and back into our room.
I should warn you, if you're squeamish, that in the picture under this link that she still has some of that white sticky afterbirth on her, but it's not a big deal. Or maybe I just think so because I'm her dad. Whatever. Enjoy, if it's not too barftacular.
