Virginia is turning down my unemployment claim on the basis that I haven't worked in this state for two full quarters. Five plus months, but not two full quarters. Fail.
On the up-side I have a meeting with
the book guy on Tuesday, and hope to be drawing some sort of pay from that sooner rather than later.
I expect to be statue-ing in Careytown this Saturday, which should yield at least a little bit of cash to tide me over.
I'm very, very excited for
Wicked Faire. I just checked Kinkos online and it should only cost me about $15 to print 100 quarter-page flyers to hand out. I'm not really sure how many I should print, but even if I double that it's still a pretty reasonable cost.
I'm getting print copies of this event's Poison Apples script tonight and will get into rehearsals full-swing in the next few days. Burlesque rehearsals (both for my audition next Thursday and for WF) will also go into over-drive soon and I'm completely psyched.
I'm also excited to start working on new stories for a collection to be published and sold at future events. After reading everyone's replies to
my question about publishing, and considering my needs again, I think I'm almost certainly going to go straight to a vanity press of some sort. Lulu.com has reasonable looking prices, and many thanks to both
baronmind and
bosfan24 who suggested it.
My two big worries with a vanity press were 1) that they'd cost me so much I'd have to sell at unreasonable prices just to make any profit; 2) the initial investment. Lulu.com has a very simple price calculator on their front page that allows you to enter the number of pages, the dimensions of the book, color v. black & white and, of course, how many copies. After playing with it for a few minutes I've decided that their prices are completely reasonable, and I have no worries about the cost to the end user being too high.
As for the initial investment... well, that's still an issue, but as I don't even have a first draft of the collection yet, I have some time to solve that problem. It's just nice to know that I'm not going to pour all this time and effort into writing a collection only to have it turn out that having it printed isn't a reasonable investment.
