--Mrs. O, The Dresden Dolls
Amanda and Brian sing
What a Wonderful World. I can't speak to the video quality, since I'm at work. I can't actually watch it here, but I don't think I'll have time to post tonight, and wanted to put it out there.
After the show Friday night I got on line with a whole slew of folks that I knew to varying degrees (as well as a zillion others that I did not), and waited to meet the Dolls. While on line we talked about a whole mess of things, the Lumi/HUMANWINE concert the next night and vegan cupcakes being the two topics that stand out for me, three days later.
Eventually I got to the front of the line and was unsurprised (though admittedly a little disappointed--because how cool would that be?) to find that Brian did not, in fact, remember me. He did compliment me on the jacket I was wearing, which was sweet, even if it did belong to
buffybabee. While I was talking to him he and Amanda signed my program, and I started to move away.
I was sort of frustrated and disappointed by this since, as awesome as Brian is, I've met him before, and I'd rather wanted a bit more interaction with Amanda. However, as I slid past her, Amanda looked up from signing things and made a point of reaching up, squeezing my arm, and giving me a quick smile. It was a tiny, tiny gesture, but things like that are one of the many reasons I love the Dolls. She could very easily have let me walk away without so much as making eye contact with me. But she didn't. She made a point of acknowledging and interacting with me--a random, anonymous fan.
It's shit like this that makes me love the Dresden Dolls (okay, right and their music). I just think it's so admirable and sweet that they make themselves so accessible to their fans, when so many other celebrities (for perfectly understandable reasons in most cases) lock themselves away.
After we were all done on the line we loitered about for a bit, waiting for the line to die down, and a chance to accost Amanda and Brian for photos. The building staff made us move about a dozen times, but in the end I did manage to score a photo:

buffybabee's friend Brigid on the right)
