Could they just please get off the Palin bashing? HEY! Chris Matthews!Keith Olbermann! Your side won. You can stop trashing her now. Maybe now that their candidate is safely in office, some of the feminists will speak out against some of the unfair criticism. Policy criticism is NOT unfair. Her cloths (that she didn't buy)is unfair. How much did ( Read more... )

I think the key is everyone has to be willing to compromise. I know "gay marriage" was voted down in three states last week, but I think they would have passed a "civil unions" bill. Is it perfect for those who believe in gay marriage? No. But, once again, the perfect was the enemy of the good.

It seems like it is that way with every issue. People on both sides say, "Give me my complete way. I'm right."

Here's a question for you. You're staunchly pro choice. What if there was a bill that legalized all early term abortions for adult women but made parental notification (with a judicial bypass) for teens a requirement and banned third trimester abortions unless the mother's life was in danger? Would you support that kind of bill?

Some people on both sides would not. In my opinion, in every one of these controversial issues there are these types of compromises that can be found. Neither side is completely happy with the bill, but both sides get something they want. It's a starting point for both sides. Get the good parts(for your side) into law and then fight about the parts you don't like.

I think I would go for a law that legalized all first and second trimester abortions for adult women, required parental notification (not permission) for underage women (as defined by their state) (with a bypass available in extreme cases) and banned third trimester abortions unless the mother's life were in danger.

And in exchange I'd never have to deal with another challenge on my rights by anti-abortion groups?

Shit yeah.

Heck no they wouldn't stop challenging abortion, anymore than the pro-choice side would stop challenging the restrictions. The extremes could fight those issues out forever. Meantime our country would have a compromise that most of us would find acceptable.

Ah, I was hoping that the compromise would include blessed blessed peace. :D

Ah, well, I'd still probably go for it.
