Still slow going. I'm now up to three seperate story threads, with no real idea where any of them is going. Midnight tonight markes the official halfway point... so it's getting towards crunch-time, I guess. At least I broke 5,000!
What follows below makes me cringe. Seriously, just bad. If you only knew the context you'd understand... that it's even worse! ;-) Honestly everything I know about this scene came from O, Brother, Where Art Thou.
Today's Excerpt:
He is with his father, back on the farm. It had been a long, hard day of work. They were relaxing on the porch while mom prepared supper for the day. Dad had pulled a small round can out of his pocket. At first, Jack thought it was chewing tobacco, but the color of the can was unfamiliar. Jack’s father twisted the can open, scooped his fingers inside. What came out was a goopy yellow-white substance. Dad spread it around on his hands and then worked it into his hair to smooth it back. He tossed the can to Jack.
“Vellux Hair Balm" Jack read.
“Try it out, son.”
Jack dipped his finger in tentively, not knowing what to expect. The Vellux was warm, gooey and plenty gross. He looked at his dad suspiciously.
“Come on now, son. You just saw me do it.”
Jack sighs, and works some into his own hair, slicking it back. He wipes his hands on his overalls, closes the can, and hands it back to his father.
“Looking good, son. Looking good.”
Jack tries to hide his grin, pretending he is still grossed out.
