HOME! (If just for a little while...)

Mar 23, 2008 21:20

I am back in Denton and damn it feels good to be home.

Though it looks like my homecoming will be short-lived because (in case some of you haven't heard) Arkansas is flooding, Texas is on fire, and Georgia had some tornadoes. Come April 11, I am bound to be sent somewhere.

So what am I doing until then you ask?

Abso-lutely nothing.

Well actually...

I am going to sleep in, get everything together to apply to the University of Neuchâtel, work out, go to some doctor appointments, hang out with Matt, sleep in some more, cook, meet up with friends, go to a few GLAD meetings, and then fly to Washington D.C. to meet Matt's family and then have a little 3 day vacation just the two of us around the D.C. area.

Yup. I am enjoying this time off.

What's strange is that I'm not freaking out about not finding work... if anything, I'm freaking out because I'm afraid work is going to find me (before I want it to).

So that's what has been going on with me. This past disaster (work-wise) was much better than Waco. I felt like I had enough to do to keep me busy the whole time- whereas in Waco, I felt like I had too much free time and that they were keeping us all longer than needed. What I really enjoyed doing this disaster was working FEMA for Kids. It was a lot of fun going around to different schools and teaching 4th graders how to make their own disaster kit (not to mention rewarding knowing you're actually getting through to an audience who cares and will take your advice and share the message). I also felt like I received a lot of recognition for my work (finally) while making good friends with the External Affairs people :P If they did this for every disaster, I would find a way to be a part of it every time.

Alright, time for bed.
