I suppose it would be the same for rat although you will not have to deal with the tails.

So much less of a hassle. I'm surprised they haven't caught on amongst the culinary scene.

It may depend on where you live as well. I can imagine that it is much easier to breed hamsters than designing miniature cows when you live on top of a mountain.

How convenient. Their owner pays quite a lot of sacrifices to keep them well fed though, which is an amazing feat considering his former terrible housing situation. I can't imagine the will-power one would have to use to wait for the proper emergency to put them to good use.

Oh? They are rodents are they not?

Anything looks good when you are starving.

They are.

But, not many people feel that way. It is... understandable. Humans grow strong, fond attachments to animals at times, especially those which they consider pets.

Rodents can survive on nearly anything a human cannot.

Humans are strange in the way they think. While the idea of pets is fascinating, I find that it pales compared to the idea of staying alive.

I suppose they would do nothing but flourish in a location such as ours.

Staying alive isn't always a simple thing to do on your own, even if it is done in the company of animals who do not have the capacity to understand your misery.

As you said, humans are... strange. [Nope, you don't get a clear-cut answer, because Minagawa loves his cat and... pretty much nothing else. :/]
