"Welcome to the wondeful world of Paper, where we live & work in a neighborhood called "downtown". Downtown is located south of 14th street in New York City, and it was here, 20 years ago in a loft near canal street, that we cobbled together our beloved indie broadsheet for $4000. At the time rents were cheap & the streets were abit sketchy, but the community was overflowing with young mavericks like us who had come to New York from all corners to make their marks &create artistic chaos. Our area of the city danced on the edge of subversive, exploding with new ideas about culture. The landscape was made up of filmakers, artists, musicians, writers, fashion designers, performers, intellectuals, and freaks, but what we all had in common was that we wanted to be at the epicenter. It was simple: Everything started downtown, so downtown was where we had to be."
