B2MEM 1

Well, I said I would, so here I am. Trouble is, I never did really think of anythign straight-up LotR to do today, hence the extremely late posting. In thirty-four minutes (less by the time I have actually typed this up and posted it) today will be over, so if I didn't do this now I would have failed right at the get-go. So, after much deliberation and panic, I decided to do some semi-LotR icons I'd had in my head for a while and then ramble at you a bit to make up for it. Let's do the rambling first, shall we?

It's funny, but I've never been much of one for LotR fanfiction. The only thing I've ever written for the fandom is that poor old confused mess that is/was Lord of the Undergarments (moment of silence, please), a poem about Sauron giving people poo, and a few plothole fillers, and I generally avoid reading it as well. Why is this? Well, it's probably because a whole lot of LotR fanfiction is complete and utter garbage. This doesn't seem to stop me in my neverending quest to find those rare gems that are good fics in other fandoms, but with LotR it just seems like too much of a bother. Probably the first LotR story I ever read was some PPC fic or another (though the first PPC fic I read was in PotC--go figure), and it just sort of conditioned me to look at the entire fandom as a bit of a lost cause. Admittedly, there are exceptions (Boz4PM's Don't Panic and Okay, Now Panic, as well as Frotu's Rehab as well as The Noble Platypus's Mary Sue parodies spring to mind), but it just seems like too much work to actually find them on my own. Add to that the fact that I honestly am not at all an expert on LotR, and therefore am quickly lost when it comes to detailed stories written by those more knowledgable than myself, and it just makes me want to pretend that there is no such thing as a LotR category in the Pit of Voles.

I'm really sort of in the middle when it comes to LotR knowledge. I came onboard as a movie fan (I had read The Hobbit years before, but had never gotten into the trilogy proper), ran into the PPC, and made An Effort to gain knowledge, partly encouraged simply by the fact that I wanted to know what in Middle Earth was going to happen to Frodo and didn't want to wait a year to find out. I got through the trilogy pretty quickly, saw the other two movies, and generally had a good time. I even read The Silmarillion, though it felt like my brain was leaking out my ears afterwards. I reread it more recently, and that was better, though I still don't know what people are talking about half the time. I know enough to be angry when some Suethor bungles things, but not enough to hold my own in indepth conversations. It's rather frustrating, and I hope I can get through this monthlong meme all right, especially since I have neither the books nor the movies with me here in Florida. I do have the Silm in my closet, but what with work and all...

I'll figure something out.

Okay, now that we're through with that, it's icon time! Take as many as you please, though I think they're funniest as a set. I might try to make them all into one animated icon later on, since I just got GIMP and I think it'd be a lot better that way. No samples because they really do go together and you must see them all at once.

And last but not least....

Done, and with twelve minutes to spare.
