- You are not doing that job, growled Asami.
Akihito pushed angrily the sheets away, getting off the bed. He grabbed his jeans, lying on the floor, and pull them hastily up on his hips before striding to the window.
- I knew you would say that.
Even though it was already two in the morning, the sun was still shining outside, making the surroundings glow under its yellow rays.
- You got yourself shot once, wasn’t it enough for it? added Asami on the same bitter tone.
Holding back from yelling and throwing something at him, Akihito bit back his anger and tried to remain calm by focusing on the soothing scenery.
- Of course it was, but I’m not going to stop living because of every threat hovering upon me. Since I’m back, you’re keeping me under key like a fragile little thing. Like I’m just your pet as before, after all.
- Sorry for trying to pull you out of your own mess, snickered Asami.
- Go to hell! Everything was because of you anyway.
- I’m not the one who wants to drag my ass to Russia for a stupid rumor. Do you want your next bullet right in the head, this time?
Despite of the cold tone, he knew his lover was worried. That’s why he persuaded him not to land in Moscow, not with Mikhail still having his eyes on them. Asami was right, the chances to get killed was high if he got there, but still he couldn’t let himself drop the opportunity to cover this possible rumor. He has stop taking his safety into consideration before doing a job a long time ago, and anyway being with Asami was also just taking an extra risk. So why making such a fuss now?
From the window of the Kämp hotel, he could see the harbor a few meters below, with all the vessels shining under the dusk light (or was it the dawn, already?). The same hot summer breeze blowing through his hair was playing with their sails, creating such a hypnotic movement that he almost forgot what this was all about.
Everything was silent; the streets were empty on this Midsummer day, since all the locals went celebrating Juhannus in their summer cottage. Now the town was like a small deserted island, much like the islets standing proudly all over the Baltic Sea, rocked by the silent waves. Just as if they were alone in the world.
It was a pity that they still have to fight.
- You never care about what I want, blurted suddenly Akihito. For you, everything is just a game where all the cards are in your hands, but you never ask me what it is that I really wish.
Maybe it was because of the soft glow of the sun, maybe because he was tired after all the time spent to travel, but all the things bottled inside were now coming to the surface in a painful complaining.
Among the low whistle of the wind, he heard the bed shuffle behind him, the sheets slide away while a soft creak of the bed indicated that his occupant had got up. Then it was the muffled sound of steps into the thick carpet, so familiar now. A shiver run down his spine when a warm hand brushed against his hips, coming to rest on his belly, and he almost had to bite his tongue to prevent from purring under the caress.
- What do you want? whispered gently Asami in his ear.
He felt soft lips tracing the nape of his neck, at the same time tickling and sending troubling waves of pleasure. He leaned slightly into the touch and a strong heartbeat echoed through his skin, strangely reassuring, like it was the last proof that this man still has a heart, his man. He turned his head to kiss lightly the strong jaw as a smile spread across his face, the intoxicating smell of his lover starting to drown his mind.
- It was about time you ask me.
