my dear friend Andrew Patton has had a dream since our sophomore year of high school. all he wanted was to become an officer in the Navy and work on a nuclear submarine. he put his whole heart into his dream- went from being a scrawny little boy to a powerhouse who could run a mile in five minutes, do 100+ push-ups, etc. on top of that he is absolutely brilliant with math and science. and the only thing that kept him out of the Naval Academy was that he couldn't get a congressional nomination. he took that disappointment in stride and entered the ROTC program at the University of Michigan. there, ROTC was his life- he worked out for hours a day along with his ROTC friends, took demanding classes, and attended special camps. He had a secure job waiting for him after college, and his future was bright. It seemed as if, after years of struggling, he was finally on his way to living the life he wanted to live. And then, on his birthday this past Tuesday, he got the news.

He was dismissed from the Navy because he has Asperger's.
ANDREW IS THE KIND OF PERSON THEY WANT IN THE MILITARY. HE IS A GENIUS, LOVES OUR COUNTRY AND WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS. HE IS THE HARDEST WORKER I'VE EVER MET, AND KNOWS THE MEANING OF SACRIFICE.
IT REALLY MAKES ME WANT TO DO SOMETHING.
