You see the island is really a spaceship and its taking everyone to another planet and the others are actually holograms created to distract Jack from stopping Locke, who intends to eat everyone on board. And where are Desmond and Rousseau? Well they're flying the island of course! GOD its so simple, how could anyone miss it...
