I am so thankful for Dr. Patton. I really want to live like this man, because learning from him has helped frame the past 5 years of my life. Actually, it's Jesus i want to live like, but Patton helps me to understand "how" to go about doing that. Because of the many courses i've taken with Patton and spending time with him in general, it seems i'll always be a student to certain things, especially anything involved with pop culture.
I was watching tv, as i've been doing a lot recently, and i flipped past MTV where instead of having ANYTHING to do with music they were having a dance competition. This group did a Power Rangers theme, which was lame enough in the first place and the "dancing" didn't help. Once the routine ended the audience roared. My mind shot immediately to 1984 and the scene where the crowd gets manipulated by images displayed on a screen. I really shouldn't go into much more detail, but it seems by using the same method, this program on MTV may have completely utilized this 1984 method. As i started writing what i saw / experienced, i suspected i had good material to write my own book. I began developing character and a premise. However, as the ideas kept coming, my writing slowly started turning into a journal. I felt as if i were really onto something, and then something happened.
As customary with conspiracists, i felt a tinge of paranoia. I really feel like i've come across something big, perhaps new. I'm comfortable with calling what i've discovered a theory. After all, i learned quite a bit from Comm. Theory with Patton, such as new communication theories being developed to this day. I'm excited! I may be the first to theorize, describe, and name what i've discovered. And if not, who cares? I'm just glad i'm capable of realizing such a thing, as a highly achieved student would be.
It may take time, or it may never even surface to the public, but i plan to continue developing my writing and this theory. If i decide to turn this into a book, one thing is for sure: Jason Bourne and his legacy created by Robert Ludlum will play a huge role in this particular idea of mine. Part of the reason for this is simply to have elements of Jason Bourne live on and be passed down to others. I'm certainly intrigued with Ludlum's writing, and even more so with the near perfect Bourne movies. It's exciting to have direction and be able to take what inspires me most and make it into my own.
Heh, i've forgotten the other thing i wanted to write about while i was on here. Though it's out of my mind, it's still present. Oh well. I am reminded of the film i want to make. One of my good friends and main influences (who will also be a cast member) encouraged me to continue working on my creative non-fiction short story turned film. Initially i was going to shoot the movie in Michigan with the talent from SAU, but since timing and planning kept that from happening, it was suggested to me to take what i have to Georgia. A group of friends down there have met some awesome kids and are teaching them to act. Though i was hoping for a more adult cast and crew, the setting and potential talent down there is something i've kept in mind. If i'm ever able, you better believe i'll try to get things going! We'll see what happens.
Last thing. I might get the opportunity to join an awesome Christian metal band from Kansas City / St. Louis and start touring with them in January. If it's something God wants, the rest is up to me to get better on the guitar and support myself to make this thing happen. With the things are right now, there's not many other things i'd rather be doing :-). Hopefully i'll have 6 or so weeks to train. I better get serious, starting now.
