Diabetes diary, Day 13

Jul 13, 2012 00:35

Morning reading was 159 -- unacceptably high compared to recent readings but better than the initial reading this morning: 275. Yeah. 275. I started to freak out then re-tested. Twice.

Breakfast was at 6;30 am so I could do my after breakfast test at the beginning of my follow up appointment with Debbie the Diabetes specialist.

She echoed many of the sentiments in the comments I got from friends after yesterday's post -- the readings are a gauge no the be all, end all. My body is still adjusting and the trends are going in the right direction.

She did pull me back to 500 mgs of metformin due to the diarrhea I've been experiencing at night. Also added another drug to deal with my pancreas. Tho I took my regular dose of 1000 mg of metformin tonight and no diarrhea. I'm gonna go the weekend and see how it goes. If the runny poo returns I'll move to her new drug deal. There's no generic for the new drug -- the name is escaping me -- and I'm trying not to spend a lot more money on drugs and testing supplies.

So that went well.

Breakfast was an English muffin with pork sausage (24 grams of carbs) and half an apple (15 grams). Total 39 carbs.

After breakfast reading was 183. If I hadn't been in the office with Debbie the Diabetes lady, I probably would've gotten really upset.

Lunch was chicken (4 carbs) on 10 grain bread (28 grams) and 7 Trisquits (12 grams). Total: 44 grams.

Dinner was 2 chicken breasts (6 grams), a mess of broccoli and cauliflower (14 grams) 20 carrots (16 grams). Total: 36 grams.

I don't see Debbie the Diabetes lady for another two months. Til then I continue monitoring my blood sugar on the same 3-day breakfast - lunch - dinner rotation with a reading when I wake up as well.

So... here we go.
