Agreed. I still really am not fond of LKH. I have been able to come to the point of enjoying AGMGTW though. Is everything perfect? No. Do I still have some issues with things in the past series? Yeah. But this episode? This episode made up for all of that.
I never really had a problem with AGMGTW, but I'm totally with you on just sort of ignoring LKH.
I think, however, it's slowly sort of shifting my entire perception of River's characterization to something, well, really different, especially in combination with this past episode.
I'm not sure how I feel about that, as I really, really liked my River, but it could be interesting.
I am much more fond of AGMGTW now. Especially the opening bit where the Doctor is pretty damn bad-ass. But LKH. That shall be mostly ignored I think, for me.
However, yes, I can sympathize with you with the new material slowly shifting the perception of River's characterization. And to some extent, I think that's where half my fit over those two episodes was coming from. Because I had a very strong idea in my head about River's characterization. And AGMGTW and LKH seemed to undermine some very important pillars of that. However, with TWORS, I feel it all stabilizing in my head again. The essence of River's characterization hasn't changed, but perhaps some particulars and nuances have.
I think that's an uncomfortable thing for us as writers to have to go through. But it certainly makes things interesting.
