The Incredibles, a review

On Tuesday evening, while bellanna was being wined and dined on company expenses, I went to see The Incredibles, Pixar's latest animated movie. For the first time in a very long time, I was one of those people who arrive during the last couple of adverts and trailers just before the movie starts. I arrived at the Vue's booking desk at 18:15 and the clark said it was fine for me to see the 18:00 showing as it wouldn't actually be starting for another 5 minutes. Otherwise it was a choice between a long wait for another showing, or seeing some other crappy movie. I probably missed a Revenge of the Sith trailer, but I wasn't bothered. The theatre was quite large and mostly empty.

The story of The Incredibles is about how Mr Incredible settles down to a 'normal' life after being forced to retire, and then comes out of retirement to save the world, again.

No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again! I feel like the maid; "I just cleaned up this place! Can't you keep it clean for ten minutes!"

The animation was very good, the story pretty good, and the voice acting spot on. There have been quite a few comments about how the movie seems to cater more for adults than children. I think some of the jokes are better described as "middle aged" rather than "adult", especially the scenes involving Mr Incredible's desk job, the way he starts getting back into shape, and the poorly explained to his wife upgrade from a small regular car to a flashy E-Type Jag.

I enjoyed the film so much I clapped at the end. The kids in the auditorium seemed to enjoy the movie too.
