Review: Le Dîner de Cons

Jan 30, 2006 23:03

bellanna and I snuggled up on the sofa last night to watch a DVD for the first time in ages. We picked Le Dîner de Cons, a French farce. The international title is "The Dinner Game", but a more literal translation is The Dinner of Bloody Idiots. The story revolves around a weekly dinner party hosted by a group of rich guys who like to mock the stupid by trying to out do each other with the different idiots they bring along each week. Of course it is important the dimwits don't know they're being lampooned. Pierre thinks he has found his champion fool in François, a civil servant from the the Ministry of Finance and a keen model maker in the matchstick tradition.

Pierre's mistake is to invite this dumbo to his apartment first for a pre-dinner drink.

Sadly we didn't know watched the film in memorial of Jacques Villeret, the prize imbecile, as we just discovered he died this time last year. He was brilliant as the addle-pate avenger.
