Five years ago, I got a computer. I ordered it from TigerDirect.com, and it worked well. There were a few hardware problems that occurred in it's old age, all of which are attributable to heavy use and known hardware defects of that model.
Two years ago, I got another computer from TigerDirect. This time, I opted for an extended warranty. The skeptic in my head said, "rip-off, scam, etc" but I was feeling rich and optimistic, so I took it. A little over a month ago, the internal video card burnt out. I called the number on the warranty, and the folks on the phone seemed quite competent and helpful. I sent in my computer.
Now as it turns out, the warranty company is WACA, and the repair service is Micromedics. Neither of these companies are directly affiliated with TigerDirect. I nosed around the internet to learn more of Micromedics. As it turns out, they have a very poor reputation on the internet. The Better Business Bureau gave them the F grade, which is the lowest out of roughly 15 ratings. Some of the stories written by customers and employees were shocking.
So far, I don't have anything to complain about other than the slowness of the service. If some of the horror stories do occur with my computer, and Micromedics, WACA, and TigerDirect do not treat me honestly and fairly, then I will be notifying the BBB, and posting honest reviews on as many websites as possible, to help other consumers be careful of extended warranties that involve Micromedics or WACA. I did photograph my computer before sending it; but I do not intend to attempt legal action. Instead, I will be sure that each company knows very clearly that they won't get my business again, and I'll buy a new computer from a more reputable company.
Of course, if Micromedics repairs my computer properly, or has a good explanation and service option if the computer is not reparable, then I will be happy to post positive reviews (which Micromedics sorely needs) and do business with TigerDirect in the future.
