50k on the 12th
Stopped at 50,461 tonight. But I'm trying to figure out how much more story is left, and it looks like about 35-40%. So I should be able to finish in November, probably around 80k or so. Perhaps much more. Time will tell. I kind of need to step back and remember what the story is about.
There's been an awful lot of telling and not showing. It takes more thinking to show, and thus more time. My spreadsheet forces me to write quickly when I do write, which means less time for thinking. But even amidst the speed, I have endeavored to show more and tell less.
I've been going through Card's Alvin series again. Currently am about halfway through Red Prophet. One thing I like about Card is that when he has multiple cultures present, he really has different cultures present. The formics, pequeninos, and humans are an example of this. In the Alvin series (set in a fantastical early 1800s alt-history America), the Whites, Reds, and Blacks each have vastly different cultures, religions, and world views from each other, and Card explores the different perspectives effectively.
