And it makes me feel so fine I can't control my brain

I just had a very pleasant evening.

Wednesday nights are caregroup nights. "Caregroup" is a group of young adults (19-25ish) from church who meet once a week to pray together, worship together, and share life and encouragements with each other. I've been part of the famous Hall caregroup since I started going to this church, and I'm pretty sure this week was my last.

Tuesday night, I got a call from Didi. She informed me that she was officially in a relationship (courting is the word they use, but don't let the connotations bog you down) with Ben - something I sort of saw coming but not exactly. Thus, today, Mimi and I headed over to the house of Becky S, Nate S, and Steph S, where we met Ben and Didi (and the S fam, of course), and helped with various tasks. Much conversation was had during that time, partly about Didi moving, but mostly about Didi and Ben courting and stuff. Ben is the New Jersey of our caregroup: we all love to pick on him, but he can take it, and he's really not that bad.

This time of visiting was followed by a surprise 2-week-late birthday party for Mark, Mimi's (Mimi is a member of the family I live with, as is Didi) fiance. It was mostly just dinner at a restaurant with peanut shells on the floor. I thought it was a cool idea, but the incessant mess underfoot (in a restaurant? ugh) became a mental hassle. At any rate, the food was quite good for the price paid, and Mark had a good time.

After dinner, we all split to caregroups, although Didi came to visit ours, since Ben was in our group. It was the first cg since Jake and Rebekah, our normal leaders, were back from their honeymoon. The meeting went well; Didi and Ben were a big subject, but we spoke also of other people. A few people had some encouragements for me regarding my upcoming move. After cg, Mark and Mimi and Steph and Josiah and some other people showed up.

Back row: Ben, Didi, Becky, Nate, Mimi, Mark. Front row: Rebekah, Jacob, Jonathan, Josiah, Steph.

A quick who's who:
Ben K: geek. Unrelated to everyone else. In courtship with Didi.
Didi N: TeenPacter from days gone by. This is who I've known the longest (since 2005).
Becky S: Sister of Steph and Nate.
Nate S: fellow introvert, Project 86 fan, and Garry's mod player. He reminds me of me.
Mimi N: Sister of Didi, finace of Mark. We currently reside in the same building.
Mark P: Engaged to Mimi. An excellent example of a person who has made a complete and major turnaround from their life before being a believer.
Rebekah H: Formerly known as "Turner." Is recently married to Jake.
Jake H: My caregroup leader. He has a sister named Rebekah, which means there are now two people with the same name, and they are his sister and his wife. Fun stuff.
Josiah: Engaged to Stephanie. Sideburns.
Steph S: Engaged to Josiah, and sister to Nate and Becky.

It was pretty much the group of all the people in GCC that I've developed relationships with. It was the community into which I have grown over the last 9 months, and it was a delightful last hurrah to see them all at once again before leaving the state. It's sad, because I'm finally really started to integrate into this circle of friends, and starting to feel more and more comfortable around certain people - and I'm leaving. But because it was Mark's birthday, Didi's moving+courtship day, and my last caregroup, everyone stayed really late. We sat outside around a fire, many of us smoked cigars or pipes, and there was guitar playing and a tiny bit of fun singing. We got kidnapped by hill people. It was the best day ever.
