I find the need to discuss certain issues revelant in terms of race, but I have a question. If this relationship was one between a man of color and a woman *not* would it continue to be a forum for discussion? True we see *that* mix more in the media, heck in our real lives, yet it tends to raise less issues than this pairing seems to have ( ... )

Honestly, I can't say. I do think it's rarer in pop culture (movies, books, tv shows) to see a man of color paired with a white woman, than the other way around, but that's just my opinion.

And definitely feel your other paragraphs. :) It can be difficult when your image isn't default, but pride in ourselves should still come from within.

This is a question I'm very interested in because I am actually the child of the the former - that is to say, my mother is Latina and my father is white - and I have always thought that was the pairing that we see more of. Then again, perhaps that is reflective of the particular community I come from (and obviously it is reflective of my individual experience which might be totally unique). I see a lot of Latinas with white men and a lot of my friends who are also biracial have white fathers and Asian mothers, but all of the biracial kids I've known who have one parent who is black and one who is white have a black father and white mother. Does anyone know if there are statistics about this somewhere.

So interestingly, according to this chart, I was correct to think that in terms of heterosexual US marriages in which one partner is white and one is a person of color, there are more in which the man is white and the woman is of color than where the woman is white and the man is of color. But, in terms of heterosexual US marriages in which one partner is white and one is black, more of them consist of a black man and white woman than a black woman and a white man.

I totally agree. It's sad that in the 21st century society stils finds it strange that a non black man or non humanoid man would find a black woman attractive. Does not say much for the human race does it? Did Worf plus Jadzia black man and a white woman create such a fuss?
