I liked it. Had fun. I appreciated the realism of how boring and monotonous space exploration has to be. It's not all action and adventure. I could see why Spock (and Kirk) would be hit with doubt although I would have liked a deeper exploration of the issue and the affect it had on Uhura. (aside from the breakup.) I do like how even injured he insisted on going to look for her...that realization of how much he cared when he was hoping to bury it.
The interaction between the crew, especially when they were separated and paired up was great. Liked Jaylah, the teen who helped the crew survive and escape. Did Bones steal that whiskey from Chekov's quarters?
Loved the nod to previous shows/movies: the photo of Spock Prime crewmates in their older years, then ST: Enterprise era, etc.
Didn't think the villain was as strong as he could have been even with Idris Elba excellent work. It felt like something or rather parts were chopped from the movie that would have given his motivation more dept. I also wished, they would stop having sound in the vacuum of space.
