Last night I was in bed, in that delightful, warm, comfy place right before full-blown sleep takes over, and this popped into my mind. I burst into laughter, threw the blanket off and grabbed my nearest notebook. I am thinking my plan to write one fic is no longer circling the drain...its down the tubes.

Gaila slipped out of her heels before walking into her quarters. It was dimly lit and she crept on tiptoes so as not to wake her roommate. It was strange that Uhura would already be asleep. She could study late into the night and still manage to wake up at the same time every morning.
“Lights.”
“Oh my God,” Gaila nearly jumped out of her skin, turning to glare at Uhura. It flushed a darker shade of green when she was alarmed. “I was trying to be quiet; I thought you were asleep.”
“I was reading.” Uhura replied.
“You're reading in the dark?”
“My lamp provided enough light. Anyway, if you brought someone back I didn’t want to be seen. I am sure I could have crept out quietly before the action started.”
“I had my share of offers.” Gaila smiled as she stripped naked and threw on some pajamas.
Uhura stopped turning away a long time ago, and had even gotten comfortable undressing in front of her roommate. Gaila was not ashamed of her body; she worshipped it, and loved for others to do the same. In her race there was no such thing as embarrassment. At least Uhura had gotten her to stop walking around naked…that took almost a year.
“I have a test in the morning. What are you working on?”
“Nothing much.” Uhura replied.
“Nothing much; in the dark? What are you up to, Nyota?”
“I'm studying, Gaila. I know it’s a foreign concept to some here but…”
“Then let me see.”
She rushed over and snatched the book from Uhura before she knew what happened. Damn those Orions and their quick hands. Gaila dangled it as if it were a nuisance.
“Be careful with that,” she warned. “It’s old.”
“Where did you get a book from anyway?”
“The Academy Archives.”
“You went all the way to the Archives for this? Hmm, let’s read a passage shall we?” Gaila cleared her throat with a dramatic flair. “The nape of the neck of a Vulcan male can be quite sensitive to touch. Typically, it is the first touch given by a female to indicate the onset of their own sexual arousal.” She laughed. “This is like Playboy for Vulcans. It’s…”
“A class assignment.” Uhura said.
“I didn’t know there was a class in Vulcan Anatomy and Physiology. Perhaps you are trying to get credits in Spock Sex 101.”
“Stop it.” Uhura was upset with herself for the small smile that betrayed her. Normally something like that would never have gotten to her but the mere mention of his name made her blush. She held out her hand. “May I have my book back now?”
“Sure,” Gaila gave it back and sat on her bed. “Just tell me, do you have a feeling for the flavor of a certain Vulcan? I know, I can be a gossip but I would keep this. I promise. Just tell me.”
“I have to translate it.” Uhura lied. “It’s a very important assignment. It has to be translated back to its native language.”
“For real?” Gaila’s smile disappeared.
“Yes.”
“So no feeling? No flavor? No Vulcan?”
“Nope.” Uhura shook her head. “You look quite disappointed.”
“I am!” she exclaimed, throwing herself back on her bed. “I was sure. The way he looks at you sometimes…”
“What do you mean?” Uhura looked up from her book.
“You know that he is half-human, right?”
“Yes. His mother is human.”
“Well it’s very easy to see that half of him when you're in the room. His eyes betray him; I know what a horny male looks like.”
“Spock is not a horny male.”
“Is that what makes him so attractive to you?” Gaila asked. “Do you think he is as safe as those PADDs and books you concentrate on? He has feelings too, Nyota.”
“I know that.” She responded a bit too quickly. “I really should get some sleep.”
“Touch the nape of his neck sometime; I’ll bet you'll see a completely different side to Mr. Safe and Secure. I've heard rumors about Vulcan sex rituals…pretty hot rumors. Every man, of every species, has a weakness.”
“Sex isn’t everything, Gaila. Lights.”
“You're right, but attraction is. He is attracted to you. No one else here at the Academy, not even his own peers, has seen one-tenth as much of him as you have. Spock is a mystery wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a fortune cookie.”
“A what? Nevermind, I don’t want to know. Goodnight.”
“Do me a favor,” she went on as if Uhura had not spoken. “If you ever crack him open, I want intimate details about what's inside.”
“Goodnight,” she said again, one of her pillows flying into the direction of Gaila’s bed.
Gaila laughed, settling down under the covers.
“Goodnight.”
