Brig - Interviewing Mirror Pike

Jul 30, 2009 19:35

Spock arrives early to the arranged meeting at the brig, hoping to have a moment to converse with Ambassador Sarek before interviewing the prisoner. He has co-opted a nearby ready-room and is sitting in quiet meditation, attempting to reconcile his apprehension of the mirror Pike's apparent psychic powers. He silently hopes that his and Sarek's ( Read more... )

::Steps into the room, light meditation robes sweeping as enters and metal doors slide close with hiss::

Good day Admiral, Ambassador.

::Takes seat opposite of Pike, steepling fingers together and furrowing brows, worry of both upcoming event and of other, more personal matters both swirling in mind::

::Appears distracted::

Ambassador Spock's eyelids open slowly, deliberately. He looks around, seemingly unsurprised by the presence of the other men in the chamber ( ... )

::Looks up at Ambassador Spock's words, divesting mind of all other outside influence to pay full attention to situation at hand::

::Nods in understanding as hears rest of statements::

::At last question, clears throat slightly::

It is a concern of mine that we treat this man with indignity. They are maliciously inclined, but not evil. If we were to align ourselves in the mutual prospect of returning him home, I believe that it would be beneficial to the both of us. This, 'mirror universe' is not something that should be considered 'bad'. It is after-all the functioning of such that allows all time-lines to achieve balance.

However...we cannot ignore the harm that he has caused to Spock, nor can we ignore his inclination to repeat such actions. Safety of all parties involved should be our utmost priority.

::Nods again, finished with speaking.::

::Folds hands over lap and looks to Admiral and Ambassador, awaiting opinions::

Spock's brows furrow as he listens to the Ambassador's concerns. When the Ambassador nods, Spock considers, then, "I do not wish to debate the philosophical theories of Good versus Evil with you Ambassador, at least not at this juncture. Your concerns are valid, and we should not discount this being's value. My concern is that we not allow ourselves to be lulled into a sense of complacency which he will then take advantage of. Simply put, we should keep our guard up at all times while we are in his presence, as we do not know what his goals or motives are.

"That said, if there are any preparations you wish to make before we commence this interview, I suggest that you make them now."

Quite true. I believe I am sufficiently prepared, at least as far as I could be at this point in time. I await the following proceedings. I am unfamiliar with command rotes and military protocal, as such I will follow the lead of you and Admiral Pike.

"Very well, let us proceed."

Spock rises and leads the way into the brig-proper. He speaks briefly with the security officer on duty in the brig, who is uncertain at first but comes to stiff attention when he notices the presence of the Admiral, though he glances at the cells at first, uncertain if his charge has somehow escaped.

The security officer leads the trio into the cellblock, does a double-take at the twin Admirals, and then leaves the trio to their business with an uncertain second glance. He goes back to his duty station and makes a note in the brig log, then sends a quick message.

Spock turns and faces the man in the cell.

"Christopher Pike. We have come to ask you some questions. I hope we are not... interrupting anything important?"

It clearly takes a moment for Pike to realize who he is speaking to, but then he smirks. "...Spock. How unusual-"

Another pause as he actually notices who is with Spock, and his eyes linger on his counterpart. How intriguing this has become... "Christopher." He greets his counterpart before looking to the last man.

It was a face he knew well.

He had been the man to kill him, after all. "Sarek."

Spock's presence commands the room, drawing all attention to him. He places his hands together behind his back and meets the eyes of the man in the cell.

"Christopher Pike. I see no reason for us to be circumspect in this interview. Please tell us what brings you here to this ship, and to this reality. What is your purpose in coming here?"

Pike met the calm eyes of the elder Vulcan with his own calm, watching him silently. He said nothing for several moments before saying easily, "Why do you believe I have a purpose in coming here?" A hint of a smirk played on his lips.

Spock looks placid - no sign of emotion on his face. "Simply because we all have a purpose. Whether you had one in coming here originally, or have developed one since your arrival, I do not doubt that you have some purpose behind your actions. Spare the childlike emotional games, Mr. Pike. They do you no service, and we will not be affected by them. Why are you here? Or, lacking that, by what means did you come here, to the best of your knowledge?"

"What games do you believe I'm playing?" He shifted slightly, keeping his eyes locked with Spock's own. He knew the man, though not one of this age, at could play these games of logic well. One had to, to interrogate Vulcans, kill them, or in his odd case, have one as their first officer. "I came here by transporter." Giving away so little, learning more in return.

"It is the game of give and take, Mr. Pike. That is how interrogation works, and you know that as well as I do. Your coy questions in the place of answers is a fool's response to being questioned. You think yourself to be in a position of strength, withholding information that we would have of you, but you reveal your weakness in your coy words. Remember, Mr. Pike, who is in the cell, and who is outside of it.

"I've only told you the truth so far, Spock." Pike said in the same easy tone, "And asked in return honest questions. Strange to think that a Vulcan would not see such a thing." Well, that was true at least.

When he spoke again, there was a deepening of his tone, a sureness of command without commanding. It was the aura of a man who was a leader, even if he was in a place of submission in the brig. "You can feel free to ask me anything you like, but that does not mean I'll reply with what you are looking for."

Spock's demeanor remained unchanged in the face of Pike's commanding aura.

"I do not deny that you have spoken the truth, Mr. Pike. I know that you will guard any knowledge you have, and will keep it from us until it serves you to reveal it.

"I believe that you did come here by transporter. Was your trip intentional?"

A tiny twitch of the lips, "I don't jump into transporters unless I have good reason to, Vulcan. It will take more then logic and fancy words to have me tell you what you wish to know."

Very well. What more would you have of me, Mr. Pike? Imagine, for an instant, that this ship is yours to command, as I suspect you believe it is, or should be. What would you have of me? Of us? What is your command?
