GO TIGERS

First Tigers win (7-2) comes at Fenway Park. Fuck Boston and their classless fans. At least we had the pleasure of watching Bill "Darth" Bellicheck lose it all to the storybook Giants (one of the two best football games I've ever seen in my life, the other being the Packers' 1996 Super Bowl win). Last year was annoying watching the BoSox win it all in baseball, shit I even rooted for the Indians over them. But hopefully, this year, Detroit will mount a massive comeback to win the Series. We are already something like 5 games back to the Royals (!?!) and the White Sox this year. Saturday = death to all things White Sox at the hands of Los Tigres! Can't wait to plant my buns in those $16 infield box seats!

I've been thinking lately about getting some kind of Chicago tattoo. Even though my opinion of this town fluctuates, I can't complain all that much about it. Plus, when I look back on this time spent here, I'm sure I'll appreciate it that much more. I've become a true man here, able to support myself and a person of my own principles and opinions. Never before have I felt such independence than I do at this time, since I am really on my own, with a few friends to help. The roommates are awesome, I'm still really close with Jess, and I'm starting to bring old and new friends into my life. The house is perfect for hanging out, so this summer will be a fucking blast.

More importantly, rather than be some idealized perception of what Chicago is, I'm starting to see it as many people have over the years: what you make it. It's hard to make a statement like that while not believing in capitalism, since Chicago is the most (American-style) capitalistic city on the face of the earth. But more than that, you can't discount how many people of every walk of life can come here and somehow find a group and somewhat assimilate. Everyone from Michigan ex-pats to Nigerian war refugees, it's provided a home for people in this "brave new economy" the way that cities like New York or L.A. can't even begin to imagine.

Now for a quick drink at Cody's (to help me sleep) then I'm off to bed.
