Specific search: Sam spends Christmas with a Stanford friend

I'm looking for a fic probably set during season 1. Sam is invited to Christmas at the house of one of his friends from Stanford. I can't remember if it was with the friend's family or with other Stanford friends. Dean tags along at least partway to meet the friend, I believe, but the guy is judgmental and it's obvious that he thinks poorly of Dean. I think Dean was just like, whatever, I'll just go stay in a motel by myself for Christmas then, and Sam lets him. Dean ends up going to a bar, but then gets into a barfight after defending someone, I think. He's left unconscious in the snow, but someone takes him home to their house and a family looks after him. Eventually, Sam and his friend hears about what happened to Dean and about how he saved someone (I think?) and Sam feels guilty and his friend sees that he was wrong about Sam's brother.

It was fairly long with multiple chapters, I believe. And I can only remember one of Sam's friends, and I know that the house Sam was invited to was in a neighborhood, and wasn't a cabin or a mountain home or anything. Please help me find it!
