FOUND! specific fic -- alt!apocalypse ending, dean/castiel
So there's this fic I'm looking for that I read a while back and haven't been able to find again. It takes place sometime during season five, I think, and I'm fairly sure it's a sort of alternate stop-the-apocalypse thing.
What I really remember clearly is just these two scenes from around the middle.
The first (and I'm fairly sure the second comes just after the first, at most one scene in between,) takes place outside either Bobby's house or the Roadhouse, in the driveway. All the hunters Bobby knows are coming to this one location to meet up, and while they're standing out in the driveway, starting to introduce themselves to others, Cas pops up out of nowhere, and puts all the hunters on supernatural-thing-alert-be-ready-to-kill, until Dean pushes through to him, telling the other hunters not to attack, he's a friend. Most of them are still uncertain, until (I think it's) Tamara, from The Magnificent Seven, comes forward a bit to second Dean, saying they should trust him because they need all the help they can get. Meanwhile, Dean and Cas spend pretty much the entire time staring at each other, and I think Ruby makes a comment to Sam about them being absolutely sickening, or something along those lines?
The next scene, IIRC, is inside the house (whichever it is); the hunters are sitting down to eat, and Cas again does something that makes it kinda obvious he's not human, setting the hunters on guard. Dean tries to get him to understand the whole their job is killing non-human things before the non-human things kill other people thing, and they have this little back-and-forth about so he wants him to act more human? and No, except yes, but -- (and meanwhile the others are all looking on in various states of so are they together? and so forth.)
