I'm looking for the fic/series, I think it was called "Sympathy for the Devil". The author has deleted their account, and I'm hoping to find a copy, be it pdf/mobi/whatever.

The premise is, when the last seal was broken, it was just Lucifer's grace released, while his soul was being reincarnated, until he became Dean. He doesn't tell Sam at first
