Hey, everyone!
oxoniensis asked me to step in for the "Ask the Author" session this month, so here I am. I'm Lyra, or
lyra_wing. I love writing, and I love to talk about writing, so anything and everything -- please feel free to bring it up. I don't even want to say "ask me," because no way am I an authority on the matter. But I do love a good discussion.
Way back, I used to write popslash ('N Sync! Yeah!). This was seriously back in the day, when the main form of communication was message boards. Then there was a long lull in which I didn't write much fanfic at all. On LJ, I posted a few fics in a smattering of fandoms (Ocean's 11, Good Omens, Lotrips, POTC, Star Wars RPS, X-men, etc...), but I wasn't really active. No fandom really grabbed me. Then... oh then.
A little show called Supernatural came along. It was that unique brand of brotherly bonding and snarky humor that did it for me. Also, the scope of it, the personality and gritty feel of it... It was unlike any show I'd ever encountered. And there was so much fanfic potential to be had within it. As is evidenced by my writing archive, which is probably 95% SPN.
Wow, I've been in this fandom for a while. It was tiny at first! I remember back when the newsletter was just starting up. I remember when it was a really big deal that Sam and Dean were going back home to Lawrence, and I remember how OMGWTF we all were when we saw John alive for the first time. Ah, memories.
So, back to the writing. My
gen SPN stories are here, and
my slash SPN stories are here. I am sad that memories are normally sorted so the oldest are listed first, because I sorta dislike my older stories. I just want to go back and FIX them! But if I had to pick some favorites, some stories that I would not change at all, I personally enjoy:
Tales of the Wild Country,
Cherry (or, The Things You Learn About A Guy), and
Tremolo and Staccato. However, the stories I think readers enjoy the most are:
Dust in the Wind,
Paradigm Shift, and
There'll be peace when you are done.
What else... I am a romantic -- nearly everything I write has a happy ending in some form. And... I like dialogue. I don't like to write any dialogue until I can actually hear it being spoken in my head, because I really want the boys to sound like... themselves. And I like to tell different, unexpected stories. I like to see if I can find a plot and turn it on its head. Now, I don't get these unique plot ideas often, but when I do, I tend to milk them for all they're worth, haha.
So, that's me. Ask away! :)
