This month my recs are, for the most part, J2 AUs. They are a varied lot, but they are all worth a read.
1:
Bell, Book and Candle, by
ixchel55 Jensen is a witch, and a good one at that. He owns a store that sells anthropological artifacts, and he's happy in his life, until his new neighbor moves in. Then, he's more than happy, but will his pride make him screw up the thing that he wants more than anything just because he can't wait to let things take their natural course? J2 AU, NC17
2:
And So He Does, by
homo-pink Beautifully written J2 high school fic. Jared's followed Jensen around ever since they became neighbors, and he's head over heels in love with him. Jensen can make him do just about anything, but how does Jensen feel? J2 AU NC17
3:
The Ghost, by
hunters-retreat This story is unusual and intriguing. Jensen is of the fey, and Jared is not. Jared is investigating a murder, and so is Jensen. They need to work together to solve the case, but Fey and Humans just don't... not usually. To make things worse, the queen of the Fey has a personal interest in the case. I loved the flow of this story, and absolutely didn't see the end coming. Really good stuff. J2 AU, NC17

It's Not the Years, Honey, It's the Mileage, by
ignited Lovely Sam/Dean futurefic. They've come into some money and they're rocking day jobs. Dean is lecturing on pop culture and Sam is curating a museum. They still hunt, a little creakier maybe, but still effective! This story is full of banter and it's the kind of fic that fills me with 'awww' because they are living their lives the way they want to at last. Sam/Dean futurefic, Adult

In the Company of Wolves, by
insanesongbird Man and wolf have been warring for centuries. Jensen, nephew to the king, is the strongest of the warriors who go up against the wolves, so what will happen to him when the king sues for peace with the wolves, and Jensen is turned while serving as a member of the negotiating team? Birdie is great at world building, and this is one of my very favorite werewolf stories. J2 AU, NC17
6:
The Sinister Nature of Cul-de-Sacs, by
goddamnbatman When Jensen, a landscaper who has recently divorced, moves into a house in a cul-de-sac, he becomes fascinated by his mysterious, reclusive neighbor. Everyone else on the street shuns Jared, who is rumored to have murdered the house's previous occupants, but he and one other - the very personable Jeff - don't believe the rumors. As Jensen gets to know Jared, he becomes more and more convinced that there's a mystery that needs a solution, but to solve it will put him in danger from a quite unexpected source. I loved this story for its humor and for the way that the plot unfolds. It features a very funny Mike Rosenbaum, and a Misha who is a gay sex guru. It's J2 AU, NC17
7:
Terraform, by
gilascave Quirky sci fi that's beautifully written with a twist that I really didn't expect. Jensen has been alone on a space station, reclaiming a planet for the human race, and he's actually very fond of his own company. When the future occupants of the newly terraformed planet arrive to join him on the station, the owner of the bar that's been set up on the station begins to encourage him to circulate. Jensen, who is far more comfortable with his bots, is suspicious, but even he can't guess Jared's motives. J2 AU Adult.

She's a Handsome Woman, by hkath
This is "Tootsie", J2 style. Jensen is a talented actor who takes method to extremes and has a reputation for being difficult. When Danneel, one of his students in the acting class he teaches a couple of times a week is turned down for a part in a soap, he dresses up as a woman and lands the role. Once on the show, he makes friends with Jared, the actor who is a single dad with an adorable 2 year old, and finds he's bitten off rather more than he can chew. This is a whacky romp with a director who is a horndog, a bunch of characters that are just a little unhinged, and I laughed when Jensen received a proposal of marriage from a really unlikely source. J2 AU, with brief reference to Jensen/Danneel. Rated Adult
9: Under a Vast Sky, by
harrigan This story moved me greatly. It's a wonderfully well researched story featuring POWs during WW2. seen through flashbacks after the war is over, Jarek is seriously injured following his experiences escaping from one of the stalags, and can't return to Poland. All he knew is long gone. His friend, Jensen wasn't so lucky, and Jarek knows that Hitler ordered the extermination of any escaping prisoner of a race other than British or American. This is their story. I loved the whole thing. It's genfic, with slashy undertones, and the tragic situation so many Polish expatriots found themselves in following the end of the war is examined here. It's touching, and heartwarming at the same time.

We've Come a Long Way, by
radiophile Another touching story for my final rec. Jensen is a bully. He first impinges on Jared when he and a bunch of his associates beat him up out of school, but Jared soon discovers that Jensen is an unhappy kid who is terrified of an abusive father and they become good friends. As they grow older Jared tries to encourage Jensen to get out of the environment that he's in, but Jensen is afraid to try. The story hinges on whether the two boys are too different to make things work for them. I loved the way that Jensen slowly was revealed to be both intelligent and loyal, as Jared drew him out of his shell. J2 AU. NC17
