I Could Use a Good Word, by
stardust_madeThis month I bring you a mixed bag of recs. Most of them are Sam and Dean this time, but there are one or two J2 stories too, and they are all amazingly good. Enjoy them through the Holidays!
Poignant little vignette about Dean's love for Sam. It's so beautifully written I teared up.
2:
Run, Run!, by
minchout Sam and Dean on the run from the Victor Henriksen. This is a really perfect rendering of the relationship between the brothers Winchester. Minchout's dialogue is dead on, and the boys come to life perfectly.

The Alleged Destiny of Change, by
drvsilla Drvsilla uses words to paint pictures like a master. Here in one of her very rare J2 stories, she has an old west tale of Jensen, who has come to catch himself a dragon, and finds help from the most unlikely source. This is a truly gorgeous story.

Christmas Tree, by
anniespinkhouse This is so well written that it sucked me in completely to the extent that I shed a tear when it was done. Jared is a werewolf who has escaped from captivity by an alpha who abused him. Jensen is the alpha who has to try to get through to him and help him heal.

The Lonely Souls, by
dragonspell I'm not a big Castiel fan, but this story brought home to me the loneliness that he must feel while helping the Winchester Brothers in their battle against armageddon. Beautifully done.

Remember Brother, by
drvsilla Sam is very well aware that he's fucked up his chances to have Dean trust him. He's betrayed his brother, and he knows it. But what if there was something he could do to make things right? Dru's writing always strikes a chord with me, and this story resonated in me so well that I wish Show would embrace it - and her - as a new writer for it. Best redemption fic ever!

Wanna Feel Your Powers, Stun Me With Your Lasers, by
weekend-exile Ridiculously silly, hysterically funny J2 college AU. Read it! That is all.
8:
Tornado Warning, by
dear-tiger This is an intricate, surreal story. Sam is back from hell, and something has come with him, because Castiel didn't read the instructions on how to re-soul people. He's afraid of what he's carrying and runs from Dean to save him from possible harm. Meanwhile, there's a man with no memory taking a job with John Winchester at his butcher's store. The sheriff reminds him of someone he used to know, but he can't remember quite who, and the weather is threatening a tornado.

Like it was Yesterday (And We Could Run Away), by
daniomalley22 Weechesters in a gen story that examines the boys' relationship with John and concentrates on Sam's alienation. It's sad in a lot of ways, but I could see it, with Sam growing angrier and angrier with his father, who is too stubbornly like him to understand what's happening, while Dean can see it but for the longest time can do nothing to fix it, until everything finally comes to a head. Beautifully written. I felt as if I was inside Sam's head.

Folie à Deux, by
cyndrarae Jensen is an artist, whose muse turns out to be a vagrant with really compelling eyes. When things go terribly wrong, you'd think he'd have learned his lesson, but the choices he makes are guaranteed to have everyone he knows think he's insane. I really liked the way that this unfolded. There were a number of twists before the resolution, and I never felt that it was predictable.

The Rise and Fall of Jensen Ackles and the Spiders from Mars, by
etoile-etiolee I've been following this story as it's been posted, and she's finally finished it. It's a J2 AU, and in lots of ways it's very sad. Jensen has everything going for him until he's struck down by epilepsy. Angry at the disorder and at the world, he cuts himself off from his support system and his friends, until a man comes along who can fight his way past that anger and resentment and into his heart. It treats the disorder of epilepsy in a very realistic way, and it's a beautiful story, sensitively told.
