I've read a few Big Bang fics, but they haven't exactly been my cuppa. This one was though.
Big Bang Fic: Living Together 101

Jensen, who's also teaching at Columbia, seems like a perfect fit: easy-going and responsible, but also quiet and unassuming. When they become friends, it's a bonus. When they pretend to be a couple, it seems like a great idea - until it all falls apart. Loosely based on the Barbra Streisand/Jeff Bridges schmoop fest The Mirror Has Two Faces.
Comments: I'm always talking about how I don't like certain things and it's because I'm a grump who doesn't like a LOT of things until I'm forced to by good or great writers. ;D In this case? I usually don't like fics inspired by movies, but "Living Together 101" is the exception. The author uses the movie as a template, and puts little tidbits here and there, but she doesn't neglect her characters, who are so lovely and charming I want them to come to hellatus movie nights and maybe an cocktail party or two. xP The characters go on a journey and everything that could be trite (like the change of glasses and the makeover) is fresh, refreshing. Wonderfully executed fluff about the difference between fauxpologies and apologies, personal growth after a broken heart and --of course-- teh power of looooooooove! Oh, about Jensen's adorable ginger beard and chubbiness.
(Also, Jensen is AWESOME when he's overweight, he doesn't suddenly become the person he's meant to be when he loses it. And that, ladies and gents, is how you write empowering fics, because the truth is? People don't have to lose weight in order to be a better version of themselves. In this fic, the one that has to evolve is the one that fits society's standards of what a good-looking man is.)
It was fanfic which made me fall in love with the show, and these are some of the fics that've made me fall further in love with the characters. <3

Comments: This fic was rec'd to me by ratherastory because I was looking for Destiel and Castiel-centric fics to widen my horizons and it was exquisite. Quite simply one of the best fics I've ever read in this fandom and any other fandom. I've read quite a few Destiel fics ever since I put myself to the task of not being such an obsessive Wincester, but I've realized that, hell, it's hard to give Castiel-voice. Either they make him too normal sounding, robbing him of his divine otherness, or they make him sound like a stilted parody of a Romantic ingenue. This Castiel? Pitch-perfect. And Rainy isn't stingy with her love and richness of characterization, since she has plenty to give to all her characters, including her original ones.

And then along came this fic and it made her story tragic and now she's a character I have a lot of affection for. Funny how that works.

This relationship makes total sense though. Sam loses his mom and who's more of a mom than Ellen? Not to mention that she's smart, she's intense and she's sexy as hell. <3 Lovely fic and yay! Something new for me, too.
