The concept of “snow day” was alien to a guy who grew up in Texas, but filming in Vancouver brought new meaning to the phrase. Jensen teased him about acting like such a kid - compulsively watching the Weather Channel, throwing ice cubes in the toilet, wearing his pajamas inside out (which was a trick since Jared wasn’t normally a pajama wearing kind of guy) - but he couldn’t help it. Yes, they had scheduled time off, but those days were also heavily planned out. But a snow day…it was like a gift from above.
Waiting to get the call was torturous for Jared. They were supposed to be shooting in the morning to get the most of the weak, winter sunlight. But the storm that was encroaching looked like it was going to cause trouble. In order for the day to be called it would have to start heavily snowing well before the 6 a.m. call, and by the time Jared crawled into bed close to midnight only a few light flurries had dusted their doorstep.
The call came in around 4:45 waking Jared from a fitful sleep. He fumbled for his phone and could hardly believe the voice on the other end reporting that shooting had been cancelled, not only for the morning but for the whole day. Jensen rolled over slightly when Jared hung up the phone.
“What’s the verdict?” he asked sleepily.
“Snow day!” Jared relayed with glee.
“Nice work, Mr. Wizard.” Jensen rolled right back into the spot he’d been in. “Settle down, Jay, you’re letting the cold air in.”
Even in the dark with no one to see him, Jared couldn’t help but grin at the unexpected good fortune. He pulled the covers back up toward his shoulders and curled into Jensen’s back. Slipping an arm around Jensen’s waist, Jared got comfortable and let himself relax toward genuine sleep. He couldn’t wait to see what the world looked like later when the sun came up and they had the whole day stretching out before them.
