Feelgood J2s

Have been on a cheer-me-up rereading kick of late. So a few J2 fics that have been bringing back the happy...

We’re still more in love than you think we are by forallthewords. Jared/Jensen AU 25,000 NC-17.

What can I say? A douchey Jensen realising it in time is something of a bulletproof kink of mine. In this delightful story Jared is out and kinda proud, Jensen is apparently straight and not at all - but they've been best friends forever. And Jared is still the first one Jensen ever kissed... A lovely high school tale of teen angst and first times, told with a nice line in wit and feeling.

So maybe there’s something really amazing out there he doesn’t even know yet. Something he hasn’t imagined that will make his memories seem less sad. He feels good about thinking this.

He’s almost home, wondering if there isn’t maybe someone out there right now under the same stars thinking the same thing, when he stops short and his jaw drops. He’s pretty sure there is a dead body. Right there on the sidewalk and, oh god, Jared might just have a heart attack and go down, too.

Should he check for a pulse or run inside to call 911? But what if the guy really needs mouth-to-mouth or something and those few precious moments Jared wastes running inside kill the dude, and maybe Jared should just step a little closer and look for breath, and yeah, he should do that, and jesus- “Jensen?”

Order up! by estrella30 Jared/Jensen AU 3,200 PG-13.

Jared is a new waiter at the same restaurant as Jensen. And oh my word, he's useless.. delightful characterisations and a warm wit make this a perfect feelgood read.

So Jared’s a pretty terrible waiter. That’s fine. He’s actually okay with that. He figures some people were made to be waiters and some weren’t. Plus, Jared knows he has other talents. He kicks ass at Halo and can make a mean cheese omelette. He can deal with being a really crappy waiter of if he needs to.

Because Jared doesn’t need to actually be a good waiter to get Jensen. The way he sees it, all he has to do is be able to fake it.

TKO by vamphile Jared/Jensen AU 20,000+?? R. Jensen is an ex-con trying to make it on the outside, Jared is a gym owner.

Eight parts long, and she basically had me at hello. Or rather Jensen did. I have no idea what life on parole for an ex-con is like, but the aching vulnerability she gives Jensen from our very first encounter with him just had me willing him on from the get-go. Complex, insightful, and such a mesmerizing dynamic between the Js here. Though, hand on my heart, it’s Jensen’s friendship with a librarian which melts me.

The library was big but most of it was dedicated to a children’s section painted in bright colors. There were two rows of carrels in the center. Most were occupied but one at the end was free. He had his sheet of sites and typed one into the address bar. He didn’t really know how to type, so it was slow going. It was an hour later when he’d finally finished the one application for Arby’s. He wasn’t even sure if there was an Arby’s anywhere near his apartment. He was getting ready to start on another one when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He froze.

“Sir, do you have a library card?”

He looked up at a dark haired woman with a stern expression. He bit his lower lip. “No. I’m sorry.”

He moved to leave but she kept her hand lightly on his shoulder. “Do you live around here?”

Everybody Loves a Happy Ending by blackinblack. Dean Forester/Priestly 24,000 NC-17.

Yup, exactly what it says on the tin. Much as I adored Jensen as Priestly, I am not a huge crossover fan so I approached with a healthy dose of wary skepticism. Man, did I fall hard. It's a post-Ten Inch Hero Priestly, breaking up with Tish and finding friendship and a growing attraction for this really tall guy called Dean Forester. The writer has Priestly's narrative voice down perfectly, as well as a terrific and realistic first-time sex scene. Wonderful.

"You're..." he paused, and Priestly checked him out in his peripheral. He looked familiar -- not in a 'I see a billion people a day and their faces start to blend into one huge mural of the same' way, but in a 'dude, you're pretty memorable there yourself' way. He was like fifty feet tall, knees almost up to his chin in the stool, and he had hair like a shaggy cockerspaniel, but maybe one who owned a comb. "Priestly, right?"

"Yup. But not like, Brendan Walsh on 90210 with the stupid 90's hair Priestly."

"Just Priestly, I got it. I'm Dean."

Priestly looked up from the peanuts to look at Dean head-on, and they shared a polite, 'I'm not an asshole' smile. "Nice to see you, Dean."

Don’t Fight with Your Pillow by balefully and setissma Jensen/Jared 14,053~ NC-17.

A hurt/comfort classic that always makes me smile. It’s Jensen breaking his arm on set, it’s Jared taking him to hospital on his way to being a mother hen, it’s Jensen off his face on Vicodin, it’s Jensen moving in with Jared to be ever so reluctantly taken care of, and it’s all utterly brilliant. The emotion, humor, bed-sharing, and dialogue are pitched just so. And the sex is SMOKIN’..

"It's all gonna be okay, Jen," Jared soothes. He's sitting next to the stretcher, fingertips just touching Jensen's shoulder as the ambulance jostles around on the way to the ER. And he sounds like he's talking to a terminally ill child, which is definitely pissing Jensen off.

"I broke my arm, Jared. I'm not exactly dying, here," Jensen points out. It hurts like a motherfucker and he is not in the mood for Jared's attempts to calm him down.

"You could go into shock, or have a concussion or serious internal injury you don't even know about!" Jared says. He sounds panicked, belying his earlier assertions. Jensen just stares at the IV bag hanging from the pole by his head. This is beyond ridiculous.

Not to mention how ridiculous it is to call an ambulance for a broken arm in the first place, but apparently there are perks to being an actor. Unfortunately, they won't let him shove Jared out of the ambulance, which would really make the whole thing worth it.
