Hello everyone! I am gigglemonster (usually Dayln03 on my vids) and the lovely oxoniensis has asked me to be the vidder of the month - for which I am incredibly flattered and excited

Why thank you! The song I used in that Sam/Jess video I did not edit myself. That was just the particular version of the song I happened to have. I don't have it anymore but I can certainly try and look for it for you :)
I'd like to say that a lot of planning goes into my vids lol but for the most part I'd say it's a go with the flow thing. I mean, it's not like there's no structure at ALL when I'm vidding but once I actually get into a project and start working on it, I definitely start playing it more by ear and thinking of new ideas as I go. When I finally decide on a song and a fandom I either print the lyrics out or write them out on my white board and try and write little notes in the margins - ideas that I have for certain sections, clips I think would fit well with certain lyrics of the song, etc. Also, when I find a song I usually listen to it on repeat for like 24 hours straight lol and just think about it and brainstorm. Sometimes I write stuff down but for the most part I just try and visualize what I want to see in my head and almost memorize it so that when I start putting stuff on my timeline I just know what I want it to look and feel like. Of course, nothing ever looks quite as good as the version I have in my head lol but if I manage to come close then I feel pretty good about it.
More often I've started taking the approach of going through episodes and cutting clips before I start to actually edit the vid. Before I would really go with the flow and cut clips as I went but lately I've realized that that's kind of a time and energy sucker. When you have a section of the song in your head and you wanna do it, it sucks a lot of your momentum out to have to find the eps and cut your clips. It's much easier to cut before and have all the clips you're gonna need right there on hand to just stick 'em where you want them. I think that helps a lot when new ideas pop into your head and you wanna try something really quick. Of course the small drawback to that for me is since I don't structure my vids down to every single clip for every single second I don't know ALL of the clips I'm going to need ahead of time. But those are really just minor details lol
As far as editing goes I don't really have a method. It's weird, since I edit with a non-linear timeline I'm able to work on whatever part of the song I want at any time. Unlike something like Window's Movie Maker, I don't have to start at the beginning of the song and work my way towards the end. However, 95% of the time that's what I end up doing. Sometimes I'll stick a few clips throughout the vid or at the end that I know for sure I want to go there, but I almost always edit in a linear fashion. I think in a way it might go hand in hand with the go with the flow vibe lol. I start at the beginning of a vid then I have a new idea for what should go next and so on and so forth. Plus I change so many things around when I edit. Sometimes I'll start a section in the middle of the song but after I've filled in the rest of the vid I'll want to completely change that part anyway. So sometimes it's just easier for me to start at the beginning of a song and work my way through the rest of the vid from there. :)
