Chat: Big Bang - signing up for the long haul

May 14, 2010 20:25

spn_j2_bigbang season is well under way. With sign-ups in January and posting stretching all the way into August, it's a pretty significant event in the fannish calendar. So, tell me about tackling a Big Bang, whether spn_j2_bigbang or one of the newer variations.

What makes you sign up for Big Bang? What makes you decide not to sign up? If you're an artist and a writer, how do you decide which to sign up as? Do you sign up and then try to figure out what to write, or are you hoarding possible plot ideas from before sign-ups?

Do you start writing from the time you sign up, or is it a last minute dash in the last week? What are your thoughts on the posting of snippets and word-counts? Do you like to keep your plot a tightly-guarded secret, or does your entire flist get in it? Do you have a Big Bang filter? Does that work for you? Do you wish more people filtered their BB posts, or do you enjoy seeing it on your flist? As an artist, do you try not to notice what writers on your flist are working on in order to be unspoiled for summary-claiming?

And talking of summaries, how tough are they to write? Do you write your summary the way you would for any other fic, or does writing a Big Bang summary get more of your attention because you know it's how you're netting an artist? Artists, what draws you to a summary? Do you go in knowing what kind of genre you want to work with? Have you ever picked a summary expecting one thing, and found yourself surprised by the fic you end up working with? How much contact do you usually have with your artist? Do you like to get guidance from your writer, or are you happy to handle art direction for yourself?

If you could pick any posting date for yourself, what would it be?

And lastly, readers/spectators, how do you cope with all that long-fic?

Feel free to tell us about your own Big Bang and get us all excited for it!
