This month I have a few pre-series recs for you.
Unexpected Company by
dotfic. 7200 words, PG-13.
This a a Bobby & the Winchesters fic, with both great casefic moments and touching family dynamics. Plus, bonus John!wing!fic, even of the not-cracky kind. Her characterizations are so fabulous that I keep meaning to go back and read all her back-catalogue stories. (I also love all stories about How Bobby Met The Winchesters, and this is a fabulous example of the genre.)
Used to Be by

This is the Dean-POV of the fight with Sam about leaving for Stanford. The dialogue in this - whether it's Dean's inner monologue or spoken words - rings so true here, and it has one of the most painful Dean-Sam moments I've read in fic. So hurty but just incredible.
Heaven Help Me Be A Man by
embroiderama. 4531 words, PG-13.
Inspired by the look Dean gives Bobby in 4.01, this is a story about Dean, Bobby, and going on a bender and saving someone who isn't sure they want to save themselves. I adore the interplay between Dean and Bobby here.
Broke the Lookin Glass by
irnan. PG-13.
This is a teen-Dean fic, and one of the rare ones to show an uncertain, tentative teenaged Dean. I love the formatting, in that while it doesn't spell out exactly what happened you get everything you need from it. It really shows a specific stage in the development of Dean-as-we-know-him, with a great ending.
Rumspringa by

Another teen-Dean story, this one shows an off-the-grid Dean with some beautiful characterizations for some of those throw-away contacts in the show. It just rings so true to our Dean. I can't even think of a summary to do it justice; I love it to pieces. Her Caleb and Bobby are especially great.
Swear A Prayer Or Two by
paxlux. 1911 words, PG
This is a series of interconnected ficlets where the Winchesters pray, in a manner of speaking. I love the sense of the everyday this brings, with all its attendant dramas, big and small.
We Bring You Glad Tidings by
wenchpixie. 1149 words, PG.
Sam, Dean, and a Christmas pageant with Pastor Jim. To borrow Wench's summary: Wherein Sammy is very professional, even when a sheep headbutts his ass, and Dean is a Star. Or holds a star, anyway. Funny yet sweet, I think her boys are spot on. Plus, Dean!snark is always made of win.
Festation by
kellifer_fic. 204 words, PG
So much awesome packed into so few words. This is hilarious and complete in little more than a double-drabble.
And one last rec, this time for a Christmas vid:
Spirits of a Winchester Christmas by
el1ie. Spoilers up to Lazarus Rising, this is a mix of Winchester Christmases past, present and future. It has such a sense of melancholy all through it and I really liked her cuts and blends.
