“Mary,” he said, and the gruffness in his voice was more than just the gravel she lived with and loved for ten years. “Our family wouldn’t have existed otherwise.”

She wouldn’t look up, couldn’t meet his eyes and still ask the damning question. “Was it worth it?”

He stilled around her, but there was no loosening of his embrace. “Maybe not,” he said eventually, but before she could stiffen, pull away from him, he continued, “but I’d pay the price again.” Very slowly, feeling his way along long-disused pathways of intimacy, he turned and pressed a kiss to her temple, lingering there. “All of it,” he whispered against her, the unfamiliar rasp of his stubble reinforcing that this was no memory, no fantasy. They were here, now, together. She was free, and he had found her.

She let her cheek slide across it, savoring it, letting it lead them both to where they wanted to be. The first touch of lips was careful, cherishing, but quickly became deeper. And deeper. Until they had to break apart just to breathe something that wasn’t each other ( ... )

Oh, I'm glad you liked it! I really was worried that it was too googly. But I really, really want this Mary&John - together after everything and enjoying each other and finally really fighting at each other's side, you know? I actually have something of a timeline of them in Heaven. I can't accept that they'd just sit tamely around and not do anything! And I totally think there's a hunter network in heaven, learning to work the system (and Ash is definitely a part of that). So this idea may unfold more if other prompts bring things out....

Anyhow. I'm glad it lightened your mood! :)

You know, for some reason as soon as the finale ended, John and Mary were my first thought, too. :)

They've been on my mind for a while. It would be so cool if Show did manage to get JDM back on sometime!

Very very lovely, the whole idea of John and Mary finding each other. It makes sense, with Ash saying he couldn't find either of them (and I love how you have Ash party to the secret here!).

They're so awesome. Great job.

Thank you! I so, so, SO want them to be doing this. Together, somewhere, wherever they are! I guess part of it is just I can't envision either of them ever giving up and just going with the flow, even in heaven....
