In most of the country, over the past several decades, it's become illegal for a father to claim his Omega son as a mate, but there are numerous small enclaves in a few states where it's still an accepted practice. Not only that, but Omegas are treated as they were in the past- collared, their place kneeling at their Alpha's feet, and spanking is dealt out as punishment for an Omega's misbehavior.

John finds a case in one of these enclaves. It's one where he'll have to blend in and be accepted by the community as one of their own. The only way is to pretend to have claimed Dean (around twelve to fourteen) as his mate. Dean agrees, readily, because he'll do anything his dad asks. At first, John thinks it'll be as simple as Dean putting on a collar, but he realizes soon enough that everyone will be able to smell it if he hasn't actually had sex with Dean. It takes a couple weeks to solve the case, but by the end of it John realizes, he can't give up Dean. For his part, Dean begs John to stay. He loves John's collar and kneeling at his feet. So they have to stay and settle down.
