“That’s awesome. What’re you studying?”
“Education,” Jared admits with a sheepish smile. “I wanna be a teacher. Grade school.”
“What year are you?”
“Senior.”
“Why the move?”
Jared’s smile falls away and the sparkle in his eyes dims slightly. Jensen doesn’t like it. “Dallas has more opportunity for continuing education for omegas than Austin does. I didn’t find out until the end’a last semester that while I could finish my bachelor’s degree, I couldn’t continue on.”
“That’s awful,” Jensen replies honestly. “But I have to say that Austin’s loss is certainly Dallas’ gain.”
Jared huffs a soft chuckle through his nose and dips his head. They continue to drink in silence for a few moments before Jared glances at his watch and flashes Jensen a quick smile. “Thank you for the coffee and not bein’ upset that I ruined your shirt, Mr. Ack- Jensen,” Jared corrects softly when Jensen raises an eyebrow, “But I gotta be headin’ out. Gotta get to campus.”
“Do you have a car?” Jensen asks, not wanting to let Jared go.
“Um, no,” Jared admits. “Was gonna take the bus.”
“Nonsense,” Jensen grins, standing up and reaching for Jared’s hand. “Let me drive you.”
“I couldn’t ask that of you,” Jared whispers.
“You’re not askin’,” Jensen drawls. “’m offerin’. So c’mon.”
Jensen is surprised - and hopeful - when Jared dips his head in a nod and accepts the hand Jensen is holding out to him.
~~~~~~
Of course Jared knows who Jensen Ackles is. Everyone knows who Jensen Ackles is. When his family and friends, hell even the pastor at his parents’ church, found out he was moving to Dallas, they all warned him about the Devil of Dallas. As beautiful as he is deadly, the ruthless mobster leaves broken hearts and broken bodies in his wake. Hell, Chad’s cousin had been one of Jensen’s playthings for a few weeks.
But Jared is new and lonely and so far, Jensen has been really nice to him. He’s not stupid, he can scent Jensen’s attraction and he knows that Jensen is just trying to get into his pants but that doesn’t mean that Jared has to let him. But if Jensen wants to be nice and buy him coffee and drive him to school and give Jared someone to talk to, well who is Jared to say no to that?
Jensen pulls his car over to the curb and turns off the engine, twisting in his seat to look at Jared. The sleek black Porsche is attracting a lot of attention and Jared can feel the heated blush on his cheeks, thankful that the windows are tinted and the no one can see inside. Jensen’s fingers against his cheek startles Jared and he looks up, surprised at the soft look in those intense emerald-green eyes.
“I had a nice time this morning, Jared,” Jensen says softly.
“Me too,” Jared agrees, barely above a whisper. When he smiles, Jensen’s fingers trace over his dimple and Jared’s stupid heart skips a beat and his stomach quivers. Well, Jensen certainly has earned at least the playboy reputation that Jared’s heard so much about.
“I’d love to see you again, if you’d like. Maybe show you around town, you bein’ new and all.”
Jared should say no. Jared means to say no. Instead what comes out is a breathless, “Okay.”
“Fantastic,” Jensen smiles at him, his eyes glittering and crinkling at the corners and for a moment he looks like a little boy, with the freckles across the bridge of his nose and the unashamed joy in his smile. “Gimme your number and I’ll call you.” Jared nods and bites down on his bottom lip, writing his number on the piece of paper that Jensen hands him, The Ackles Corp printed boldly on the top. Jared can’t help but wonder if it’s a legitimate business or just a cover. It’s not like the entire country doesn’t know that Jensen is a mob boss. “Are you free tonight?” Jensen asks, taking the paper back and folding it, shoving it into the inside pocket of his suit jacket.
Reply
“Nothing,” Jensen chuckles, shaking his head. “You… You’re just so completely adorable.”
It should be insulting. Jared is a grown man. He’s not adorable. But somehow, coming from Jensen, it sounds like a real compliment. “I have to go,” Jared mutters, ignoring the look in Jensen’s eyes and the heat in his own stomach.
“I’mma call you tonight,” Jensen murmurs. “Maybe we can have dinner.”
“Uh, yeah, okay,” Jared breathes. “I’d like that.”
Jensen nods and reaches out, his palm sliding over Jared’s cheek again. Jared’s breath hitches when Jensen leans closer, knowing what’s about to happen, knowing that he shouldn’t let it happen, but still surprised somehow when Jensen’s lips brush against his.
Jared blinks owlishly when Jensen pulls away, his thumb brushing gently over Jared’s bottom lip. “Have a nice day, Jared,” he says softly. “I’ll talk to you later.”
Jared nods numbly and fumbles his way out of the car, not even really noticing the looks he gets from people passing by. He floats through the rest of his day in a daze, functioning by shear muscle memory and dumb luck. His mind is nowhere on UT’s campus. It’s with the beautiful green-eyed alpha that he should be terrified of, if for no other reason than he knows he’ll break his heart.
The rest of the day simultaneously flies by yet drags. Jared wanders around lost, the haze from the morning not leaving him, even when he gets back home to his crappy little apartment a few blocks away from campus. He’s not sure if he wants Jensen to call or if he’s afraid that he won’t. He’s honestly never been so confused, so knocked off his feet by someone. But there’s just something about Jensen. Jared knows better than to get wrapped up in someone with Jensen’s reputation but he’s mesmerized by the older man. It doesn’t mean that he has to bend over for him or give him his heart. Maybe they can be friends.
Jared knows he’s already hopelessly gone when his cell phone rings a few hours after he gets home, the display showing a number he doesn’t know, and his heart kicks up a notch, knowing somehow that it’s Jensen.
“Hello?” Jared whispers.
“Jared?”
“Y-yeah,” Jared breathes, closing his eyes, trying to calm himself down.
“Did I catch you at a bad time?” Jensen asks.
“Uh, no, now’s fine.”
“Are you okay, Jared?” Jensen asks softly, what sounds a lot like concern in his tone.
“Y-yeah, just… long day.”
“I can imagine. New campus and new city all in one.” Jensen pauses, clearing his throat. “So, were you still interested in grabbing some dinner?”
There’s a hopeful note in Jensen’s tone that throws Jared. Surely he can’t be that interesting that playboy Jensen Ackles, the Devil of Dallas himself, is that anxious to go out with him. He’s probably got a stable of beautiful, twinky omegas just waiting for him to give them the time of day. At least that’s what Chad told him after his cousin got thrown to the curb when Jensen was done with him.
None of that explains why Jared feels his heart speed up and his stomach flutter in anticipation of seeing Jensen again. “Yeah, sounds good.”
“Great,” Jensen murmurs. “Gimme your address and I’ll send a car. We’ll be dining at my place tonight.”
Jared rattles off his address without thought. God, he’s a freaking idiot.
“See you soon, Jay,” Jensen murmurs, his voice like warm honey and Jared shivers.
~~~~~~
Jensen’s smile is so big his cheeks are hurting when he hangs up. Christian is looking at him, one eyebrow raised, a smirk pulling up one side of his lips. Of all of Jensen’s associates and even his own men, Chris is the only one Jensen calls a friend. They grew up together and Jensen pulled Chris in as his right hand man as soon as he started making a name for himself. He’s the only person on the face of the planet who would ever get away with busting Jensen’s balls.
Reply
“Jared?” Chris asks, still smirking. The bastard.
“Yes, Jared. Jared Padalecki. Twenty-two years old, born in San Antonio. Middle omega child of Gerry and Sherri Padalecki. One older alpha brother and a younger beta sister. Carried a 4.0 GPA at UT Austin then transferred to UT Dallas for his final year.” Jensen may be fascinated with Jared but he didn’t get into the position that he’s in by being careless. It was nothing to have Danneel look into the boy today. “Now go. He’s waiting.”
Chris snorts out a laugh but - for once - does as he’s told. Jensen wanders into the kitchen, smiling sweetly at Sam as he leans against the counter and watches her stir a pot of something that smells amazing. “I’ll be having a guest for dinner.”
Sam Farris, toughest beta Jensen has ever met, looks over at him, one eyebrow quirked. “Yeah? Is this a business dinner or personal?”
“Personal,” Jensen nods.
“Which means that you’ll be having dinner in the formal dining room and would prefer all us lowly employees to scram.”
Jensen puts one hand over his heart, pouting at her. “Sam, you wound me.”
“Can it, buster,” she laughs, smacking his hand when he tries to taste whatever she’s making. Sam’s been with him almost as long as Chris and she’s honestly like a mother to him; more than his own mother ever was. “So,” she looks over at him again, smiling softly, “who is this mystery dinner guest?”
“His name’s Jared,” Jensen replies, unable to wipe the smile off his face that results from just thinking about the younger man. He’s got it so bad already. “I met him today at the coffee shop. He’s a senior at UT Dallas and just about the most adorable omega I’ve ever met.”
Sam chuckles warmly and reaches up, patting his cheek. “I’m glad, sweetheart,” she says softly, sincerely. “It’s about time you met someone and brought him home.”
Jensen bends down and presses a kiss to her cheek. “Thanks, Sam,” he whispers. “I really think you’ll like him.”
“If you like him, sugar, I’m sure I’ll love him.” She kisses his cheek then rubs the lipstick mark she left off with her thumb. “Now get the hell outta my kitchen.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Jensen chuckles.
Jensen heads toward the front room, knowing that is likely where Chris will take Jared. He pours himself a glass of whiskey and settles in a chair, trying to calm himself down. He’s nervous, he can fully admit that. He wants this evening to go well. He wants to get to know Jared better, see if there’s a future for them. Hell, Jared may even be his long sought after mate.
He looks up when the door opens and Christian leads a clearly nervous Jared into the front sitting room. Jensen raises out of his seat and sets his glass aside, smiling warmly at Jared. The younger man looks just as good as he remembers and smells just as sweet. Jared smiles softly, ducking his head shyly, his dimples digging in deep. Chris looks at him with a smirk and an eye roll and makes himself scarce.
Jensen steps forward and takes Jared’s hand, his smile widening when Jared looks up at him through his lashes. “Thank you for coming, Jared,” Jensen murmurs, leaning forward to press a sweet, chaste kiss to Jared’s lips.
“Thanks for having me,” Jared whispers back.
Jensen leads them to the couch and urges Jared to sit. “We’ve got some time before dinner. Would you like a drink?”
“N-no thank you,” Jared mutters.
Jensen nods and takes a seat next to Jared, picking up his glass to take a sip, silently watching Jared out of the corner of his eye. Jared’s looking around the room with wide eyes, his lips slightly parted, a look of awe coloring his features. Jensen is aware of his home’s beauty but it’s always interesting to see it through the eyes of someone else.
Reply
“Thank you.” Jensen sets aside his glass and leans back against the couch cushions, one arm stretched along the back, his fingers just barely brushing Jared’s shoulder. “Tell me more about yourself, Jared.”
Jared licks his lips and nods, turning his head enough to look at Jensen. “There’s not much to tell, really,” he mutters. “I’m not really interesting at all.”
“I find that hard to believe,” Jensen smiles. “What I’ve seen so far? You’re extremely interesting.”
“W-what’d’ya wanna know?” Jared asks softly.
“Whatever you wanna tell me.”
Jared proceeds to tell him about his family and his home town, a friend named Chad that Jensen thinks he’d probably bury in the desert somewhere. It’s not really anything Jensen hadn’t already had Danneel dig up but he listens intently anyway, just happy to hear the sound of Jared’s soft, sweet voice.
Sam calls them for dinner after about a half an hour and Jensen introduces her to Jared. He can tell right away that she’s as taken with the young omega as he is. That’s even before she gives him a grin and a thumbs up behind Jared’s back.
Dinner passes by nicely. They make small talk while enjoying Sam’s famous homemade beef stew. He doesn’t really find out anything else about Jared, just more about his family and friends and while Jared is quick to answer questions, he asks none of his own. Jared mentioned knowing Jensen when they met and Jensen can’t help but wonder again if Jared is afraid of him. He doesn’t want to frighten him away so maybe him not asking questions is a good thing. Jensen will just have to show Jared that he’s not always the monster that everyone thinks he is.
~~~~~~
To Jared’s surprise, after dinner, Jensen drives him home. He doesn’t ask to come up to his apartment or anything else. He merely presses a soft kiss to Jared’s lips, flashes him a beautiful smile, and says that he had a nice time and asks if he can call Jared again.
Jared doesn’t know what to think. The Jensen that he’s seen doesn’t really fit with the reputation that the man has. Jared can’t help but like Jensen, or at least the Jensen that he’s been seeing. So instead of doing the smart thing and walking away, Jared agrees.
After that night, Jensen calls at least once a day. He takes Jared out to eat or out for coffee, to the movies or just to the park to sit in the sun and watch people play with their dogs. It takes two weeks of seeing Jensen every day and talking to him in between for Jared to realize that he’s essentially dating Jensen. That’s when he realizes that he’s also pretty much in love with Jensen too.
He knows it’s stupid, that he’s setting himself up for heartbreak but Jensen is the most amazing man he’s ever met and he’s so good to Jared. When Jensen asks him to move in with him, Jared doesn’t even hesitate. The day he moves in is the first time they sleep together. Jensen holds him while they’re tied together and tells Jared that he loves him. Jared wants so badly to believe him.
The first few months are amazing. Jensen is wonderful and attentive and Jared’s never been so happy. Jensen is supportive of his schooling and Jared’s wish for a bit of independence from his alpha and they spend every night wrapped in each other’s arms, having sex - making love the idealistic, romantic side of Jared insists - and it’s like a fairy tale.
Until about six months in when Jensen starts working late. Jared tries not to think too much of it, see things that aren’t there, but for several weeks, every night, Jensen comes home well after midnight. As soon as he gets in, he takes a shower and crawls into bed with Jared, going right to sleep. Jensen hasn’t touched him in weeks.
Before Jared can ask or get away like he knows he should - Jensen doesn’t love him, Jared’s just another in a long line of stupid, gullible omegas - his heat starts.
Jensen kisses him deeply, moaning into his mouth, their tongues tangling together and Jared whimpers, arching beneath him, clawing at his back. Jensen strips quickly, tearing his shirt in his haste to get it off and flips Jared onto his stomach. Jared mewls and raises up on his knees, his ass in the air. Jensen groans and grabs both cheeks of his ass, pulling him apart and Jared hisses as the cool air hits his wet, heated rim.
“God, baby,” Jensen groans, leaning forward to press a kiss to the small of Jared’s back. “So wet for me. Smell so fuckin’ good.”
“Please,” Jared rasps. “Jensen… Oh God, please…”
“I got’cha, sweetheart, ‘s okay.”
Jensen drapes himself over Jared’s back and slams forward, Jared’s natural slick easing the way, his muscles opening for Jensen easily. Jared cries out when Jensen stops, buried balls-deep, his hands curled into fists in the sheets. Jensen nuzzles the back of his neck, pressing a kiss to his sweat-slick flesh, groaning softly into his ear.
“So good, Jay,” Jensen breathes, his hips picking up at rhythm. Jared keens and pushes back against him, all his fears and worries and doubts flying from his mind. All he can think about, all he cares about, is the feeling of Jensen inside him, splitting him open so good, the thrusts against his prostate and the pressure of Jensen’s expanding knot on his rim.
“Jen,” Jared whimpers, turning his head over his shoulder, moaning happily when Jensen kisses him.
Jensen’s hands tighten on his hips and he presses forward, churning his hips, grinding, his knot pushing past Jared’s rim, growing, expanding fully, tying them together. Jared cries out, nearly a scream, when Jensen pushes in fully, his knot pulsing, his cock twitching, the pressure on his sweet spot enough to push Jared over the edge. He comes, his cock untouched, trembling and moaning in Jensen’s embrace. Jensen tips them over to the side gently and snuggles Jared close to his chest, pressing a kiss to the back of his neck.
“Mm,” Jensen hums. “Love you, baby.”
Jared closes his eyes, his heart breaking. Now that the symptoms of his heat have been taken care of for the moment, he remembers what he’s been worried about, knows that Jensen has already replaced him, that he’s lost Jensen.
“Love you,” Jared whispers, his throat tight, not even sure if Jensen hears him.
~~~~~~
Jensen groans happily as he wakes up, rolling over without opening his eyes and reaches for Jared. It’s been a long few weeks and he’s missed his sweet omega. Things have been a little crazy and he’s had to get a few people in line but that’s over now so he’ll have the time to pamper Jared and treat him like he deserves to be treated. If last night was any indication, it’s been way too long since he showed Jared his full attention.
The sheets still smell like Jared and heat and sex and Jensen groans again, his cock stirring. He slides his hand across the mattress, his eyes snapping open when all he feels are cold, empty sheets. The bed next to him is empty and Jensen frowns, glancing at the clock on the bedside table. It’s just barely past seven on Sunday morning. No way is Jared at school and with his heat he should be still curled up in bed, lost in the haze.
Jensen takes a deep breath and sits up, forcing himself to calm down and think. Maybe Jared went for a run like he does some mornings or maybe he woke up hungry and went down to the kitchen for an early morning breakfast. Jensen throws on a pair of sweats and heads downstairs. He breathes a sigh of relief when he sees Sam at the stove, making what looks like a decent sized breakfast.
“Hey, Sam,” Jensen smiles. “Have you seen Jared?”
“No, sugar,” Sam shakes her head and looks up at him, her brow furrowed. “Isn’t he upstairs with you?”
“No,” Jensen sighs.
Reply
Jensen nods and heads back upstairs, ignoring Sam asking him about breakfast. He sits down on the edge of the bed and chews on his bottom lip. Hours pass and Jared doesn’t come back. When he doesn’t answer his cell phone, Jensen starts to get really concerned. There are plenty of people out there that will have no problem taking Jared in an effort to get back at Jensen.
Jensen’s next call is to Chris. Unfortunately, he hasn’t seen Jared either and hasn’t heard anything on the streets about anyone targeting him. Chris promises to run by Jared’s old apartment and see if for some reason he went back there.
Jensen jumps when his phone rings ten minutes later, his heart in his chest until he sees that it’s Chris. “Tell me you got somethin’, Chris,” Jensen growls as soon as he answers.
“Sorry, Jen,” Chris sighs. “Apartment’s been rented to someone else. No one around there has seen Jared.”
“Damnit,” Jensen growls.
“Don’t worry, boss. We’ll find him.”
“Before he gets hurt?” Jensen snaps.
“I’m on it, Jensen,” Chris replies firmly.
Monday morning, through a contact at UT Dallas, Jensen finds out that Jared dropped out of all his classes. For some reason, Jared is in the wind.
~~~~~~
Jared curls up in his old bed in his parents’ house, staring at the missed calls and numerous texts on his cell phone. Jensen seems to be going out of his way to find Jared. Probably worried that Jared will run his mouth, even though Jared doesn’t know anything. He stayed completely clear of Jensen’s business, both legal and illegal. But even if he did know anything, Jared wouldn’t say anything. He just wants to be left alone.
He groans when the door opens, curling up further under the blankets. He doesn’t want to see anyone. He’s not at all surprised when Chad sits down on the bed next to him and reaches up, pulling the blankets down enough to see him.
“Okay, you’ve been hidin’ out here for two weeks, man,” Chad states, arms crossed over his chest. “You barely leave this room and you’re a complete mess. I wanna know why.”
Jared looks up at his best friend, tears stinging his eyes. “I’m pregnant,” he whispers.
“What? JT, what the hell? You haven’t even mated.”
“I know, Chad,” Jared groans, closing his eyes. “But I met this guy and I thought he was great and it just… happened.”
“Who’s this guy? What aren’t you telling me?”
“Jensen Ackles,” Jared whispers, biting his bottom lip.
“Wait,” Chad holds up one hand, blinking owlishly. “Jensen Ackles? The Jensen Ackles? The Devil of Dallas?”
“Yes, alright!” Jared snaps, opening his eyes to glare at his friend. “We met when I first moved to Dallas and he seemed so great and I thought that maybe everyone was wrong about him…”
“You know what happened to Mike, JT,” Chad says softly. “Devil Ackles wined and dined him too. Made it all seem like a fairy tale. Until Mike got pregnant and Ackles made him get rid of it.”
Jared inhales sharply, his hand automatically smoothing over his still flat stomach. He knew he was pregnant the morning he woke up after his heat and all his symptoms were completely gone. A quick trip to the free clinic in Austin confirmed it. That’s when Jared went back home to San Antonio. He was afraid that Jensen wouldn’t want the baby, especially considering he’d already replaced Jared. Turns out his fears were true.
“What’re you gonna do?” Chad asks softly.
“I’m gonna have this child,” Jared replies thickly, rubbing his stomach. “And I’m gonna raise him or her and give it all the love I can.” Jared doesn’t want to admit that part of the biggest reason is because the baby is the last link to Jensen that he has. Despite everything he’s been through, Jared is stupid enough to still love him.
Chad smiles sadly and nods, reaching out to squeeze his shoulder. “Well, you know I’ll be around and so will your parents.”
“Yeah, once they get over the shock and anger of me being pregnant and unmated,” Jared snorts.
“It’ll work out, Jaybird. You’ll see.”
Jared appreciates Chad’s optimism but he can’t be quite so positive himself.
Jensen’s sitting at the kitchen table, nursing a glass of whiskey when Sam sits down next to him, one hand curling over the one he’s got fisted on the table. “Have you tried his parents, sugar?”
Jensen looks over at her, eyes wide. No, he hadn’t tried Jared’s parents. From what Jared had said, while they were good people and great parents, they were a bit old fashioned and not all that thrilled about their young, unmated omega son going to school so far from home. It was worse when he made the decision to move to Dallas. He honestly didn’t think Jared would head there but he’s run out of other options and he’ll take his chances with whatever long shot he can.
A quick call to Danneel and a little of her magic and within ten minutes he has the number of the Padaleckis out of San Antonio. Sam smiles at him and kisses him on the cheek, wishing him luck as she makes herself scarce.
A warm, pleasant female voice answers and Jensen closes his eyes, hoping against hope. “Um, yeah, I was wondering if Jared’s home?”
“Who’s calling?”
“My name’s Chris, I’m a friend from school. I haven’t seen him in a while and was worried.”
“Oh, dear, I’m sorry. JT’s sleeping right now. He’s… a bit under the weather. I can tell him you called though.”
“That’s okay, Mrs. Padalecki. Thanks but I’ll just try back later.”
Jensen hangs up and jumps from his seat, dialing his phone as he runs up the stairs to pack a quick bag. “Danni, I need on the next plane to San Antonio. I don’t care how much it costs. Just get me there,” Jensen demands as soon as Danneel answers the phone.
“Take it you found Jared?” she asks, keyboard already clicking in the background.
“Yeah, he’s at his folks’ place in San Antone, ‘s why I need to get there and get there quick.”
“All done, Jen,” Danni announces proudly. “Texting you the flight info now. You take off in two hours. Best get to the airport.”
“Thanks, D,” Jensen sighs. “Remind me to give you a raise when I get back.”
“Already done that too, boss.”
Jensen laughs for the first time in over a month as the fiery red-head hangs up. He’s got his bag packed and on his shoulder, dialing Chris as he runs back down the stairs. “Need you to drive me to the airport. Now,” Jensen snaps.
“Whoa, what’s up?” Chris asks, even as Jensen hears him moving, the jingle of his car keys.
“Jared’s with his parents. Danni got me on a flight in two hours.”
“Cuttin’ it close there, bossman.”
“I’m aware, Christian,” Jensen growls. “Which is why I need you here now.”
“I’m outside.”
Jensen hangs up and runs to the door, calling out over his shoulder, “Sam, I’ll be back in a few days. I’ll call ya once I land!”
The ride to the airport is tense and seems to take forever. Logically Jensen knows that it literally only takes maybe ten minutes but he’s on a tight deadline here and he can’t wait to see Jared, to find out what happened and bring him home.
“Lemme know, okay?” Chris asks when he pulls up outside the terminal, glancing at Jensen out of the corner of his eye.
“’course.”
“Good luck, Jen.”
Thankfully Jensen gets through security with enough time to spare, collapsing in his seat in first class and for a second revisits his idea to buy a private jet. After this little adventure, he’s thinking pretty hard about doing it.
The flight isn’t long, in the air under an hour and Jensen is winding his way through the San Antonio airport and out the front doors, hailing a cab. Danni, miracle worker that she is, also was able to procure the Padalecki’s address. It’s about a fifteen minute drive and the cabbie keeps giving Jensen tentative looks through the rearview mirror. Jensen doesn’t know if it’s because he recognizes him or if Jensen just looks like a crazy person. He frankly doesn’t care.
Reply
Inhaling deeply, Jensen shoulders his bag and heads up the front walk. He has no freaking clue how he’s going to get inside. If Jared’s parents recognize him, it’s over. If they don’t, Jensen doesn’t know how to get them to let him in. Maybe he should have brought Danni or Sam. Hell, even Kane.
Before Jensen can knock the door swings open and a blonde boy that Jensen has never met but seen plenty of pictures of looks up at him, his blue eyes cold and deadly. Chad glances over his shoulder then looks back to Jensen, planting one hand in the middle of his chest and pushes him out onto the porch, shutting the door behind him.
“Look, whatever you’re here for, just turn around and leave,” Chad grits out.
Jensen straightens to his full height, his shoulders back, eyes narrowed angrily. Chad doesn’t even flinch. “I need to see Jared.”
“No you don’t, pal,” Chad snarls. “Don’t you think you fucked his life up enough already?”
“What the hell’re you talking about?!” Jensen snaps. “I love him…”
“Yeah, I’m sure you do,” Chad answers sarcastically. “Just like you loved all the ones before and the ones after.”
“Look, kid,” Jensen sighs. “You don’t know me…”
“I know plenty,” Chad growls. “Mike Rosenbaum. Ring any bells?”
Jensen blinks owlishly, shaking his head. “What’s Mike got to do with this?”
“Mike’s my cousin you dick. And I know all about how you lead him on, making him think he was ‘the one’ until you got tired of him and moved on. Not before you knocked him up and made him get rid’a the baby though.”
“Chad, no,” Jensen sighs. “That’s not what happened at all. Mike and I dated a few times, it wasn’t going anywhere so I broke it off. We never even slept together but Mike was obsessed…”
“Pretty likely story, except how you did the same thing to my best friend!”
“I never lead Jared on. I’ve never lead anyone on.” Jensen pauses, licks his lips. “And I don’t have to explain myself to you. Jared is who matters here. Lemme see him.”
“Over my dead body.”
“That can be arranged,” Jensen growls, taking a step forward.
“Stop it, both of you.”
~~~~~~
Jared stands in the open door, looking back and forth between Jensen and Chad, arms crossed angrily over his chest. “What the hell is your problem?” he asks both of them. “You’re just damn lucky my parents aren’t here right now.”
“Jared,” Jensen breathes, holding out one hand, his green eyes glittering in the early evening light. “Baby, I’ve been so worried…”
“Yeah,” Chad snorts. “Like you were worried about Mike?”
“Jesus,” Jared sighs. “Get in here ‘fore one’a the neighbors calls the cops on your stupid asses.”
Jensen glares once more at Chad as he does as Jared said. Chad turns to Jared, his eyes wide and pleading. “You gotta call the cops, JT,” Chad whispers furiously. “God knows why he’s here…”
“Chad,” Jared grits out, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I highly doubt he flew to my parents’ house to murder us in our sleep or something…”
“You don’t know…”
“Look, just, go home. Lemme deal with this.”
“Not alone,” Chad hisses. “Are you freakin’ nuts? Is it the baby hormones? He’s a psycho, Jared.”
“Seriously,” Jared huffs. “Just go. I’m tired and nauseous and I don’t wanna deal with you two fighting.”
“I’m sitting right out here ‘til he leaves,” Chad grumbles and plops down on the front porch, glaring up at Jared.

Jensen looks up, his eyes wide, his lips parting slightly. He looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks - his eyes tired behind the glasses that he never wears usually and smudged with purple beneath - and he’s got at least a week’s worth of stubble growing and he’s wearing sweats and a wrinkled t-shirt. Jared has never seen Jensen look like this. Jensen is always so put together, even when they’re relaxing at home - were relaxing at home - and this Jensen is anything but. Frankly he looks as awful as Jared feels. But he’s still the most beautiful person Jared has ever seen in his life.
Jared crosses his arms over his chest - mostly to resist rubbing his stomach, it’s become a nervous habit that he can’t quite control - and stares at Jensen. “What’re you doing here?”
“Thought that’d be obvious,” Jensen says softly. “I wake up one morning to find you gone, no note, no explanation… I’ve been worried sick, Jared.”
Jared snorts out a humorless laugh and shakes his head. “Why, Jensen? It’s not like you don’t have a freakin’ line just waitin’ to fill my shoes.”
“What?” Jensen breathes, blinking owlishly. “What’s that mean? I was terrified that someone took you to get to me or that you were hurt, or worse, and I’d never know it.”
“I’m not stupid,” Jared grits out. “I know that you’ve got plenty’a others on the side. What’s one little missin’ omega?”
Jensen stands up and stalks toward him, his eyes narrowed, anger bleeding off the tense line of his shoulders. Jared’s still not afraid. In fact, it’s stupidly hot. “Is that what you think?” Jensen growls.
“It’s what I know,” Jared counters with a shrug of one shoulder. “I know the rumors, Jensen. I’ve met a few of your conquests, heard the stories ‘bout you fuckin’ them in the alley outside a club or them sucking you off in the back of the car,” Jared pauses, swallowing thickly, not wanting Jensen to see how much talking about this hurts, “Fuck, Jensen, I know Mike!”
Jensen stands in front of him for a few moments, chest heaving, hands clenched into fists at his side. He’s close enough to touch - which also means he’s close enough to scent the subtle difference in Jared because of the pregnancy - and Jared needs this to be over, now.
“None of that is true,” Jensen whispers, his shoulders slumping. “Jared, I love you. I want you to be my mate…”
“Chad said you made Mike get an abortion when he wound up pregnant.”
“Sweetheart, I never even slept with Mike,” Jensen replies softly. He huffs out a sigh and paces away, one hand rubbing over his face. “Mike, like a lot of others, wanted something from me. Be it protection or money, power, just the ability to say that they were with the Devil of Dallas. I’ve dated a few people, slept with a few, but it was never like everyone tries to make it sound. Yes, I have a certain reputation and yes I have let it go, done nothing to refute it. But all of that was before you.”
“Before I left,” Jared murmurs, tears stinging his eyes. “You were gone all the time, working late. You didn’t even… It was weeks, Jensen.”
“I know,” Jensen sighs. “And I’m sorry ‘bout that. Things were crazy and I had to deal with some things, things I let go while we were settling in. I didn’t think it’d take as long as it did. And when I’d get home, you were already asleep most nights and I knew you had to get up in the morning for school. I just… I’m sorry,” he repeats. “The last thing I ever meant to do was neglect you. Or hurt you.”

Sure enough, Jensen pulls back just enough to look at him, his wide eyes searching Jared’s. “Seriously?” he rasps.
“Yeah,” Jared nods, more tears falling beyond his control. “I was afraid…”
~~~~~~
Jensen’s heart feels like it’s going to burst out of his chest. He leans forward and buries his face in Jared’s neck, inhaling deeply once again, his inner alpha preening at the scent of life clinging to his omega, his mate. His arms slide around Jared’s trembling shoulders and pull him closer, turning his head enough to press a kiss under Jared’s jaw.
“God,” he breathes. “Jay. I don’t… Holy crap.”
“Are you mad?” Jared whispers shakily.
Jensen pulls back to look at him, once again cupping his face. “No, baby,” Jensen gives Jared a watery smile. “I couldn’t be happier.”
“But I ran away…”
“Because there were some big misunderstandings and we never talked about things. That’s my fault, sweetheart. I can’t blame that on you.” Jensen inhales deeply, exhales slowly, his thumbs rubbing over Jared’s cheekbones. “Just. Come home?”
“Yes,” Jared whispers, tears pooling in his eyes again, his bottom lip quivering. “Damn hormones,” he laughs shakily.
Jensen grins and hugs him close again. “Gotta call Danni and get her to book two tickets…” he murmurs, mind going a million miles a minute. “How fast can you be ready?”
“Jensen, whoa,” Jared chuckles, pulling out of his arms. Jensen barely resists grabbing for him again. “I have to let my parents know something and I can’t just take off at the drop of a hat. Not again,” Jared adds sheepishly. “Get a room in town and book the flight for tomorrow some time. I’ll talk to my folks when they get home and take it from there, okay?”
Unable to not touch, Jensen reaches out, grabbing Jared wrist. “Will you come spend the night with me?” he asks softly, his thumb brushing over the sensitive veins on the inside of Jared’s wrist.
Jared swallows thickly, licking his lips, and nods. “I’ll, uh, I should be able to. After I talk to my parents and get things worked out, I could come over.”
Using the hold on Jared’s wrist, Jensen tugs gently, pulling his omega closer. “Please?” he breathes. “I’ve missed you, so much. Just wanna hold you and talk to you, just be around you.”
Jared’s lips part on a soft, barely-there gasp and he nods again. “Me too,” he rasps. “T-they should be home soon. I’ll call you.”
Jensen nods, reaches up with one hand to palm Jared’s face. Jared leans into the touch, his eyes fluttering closed, sighing contently. “Can I kiss you?” Jensen whispers, lips a hairs’ breadth away from Jared’s.
“Yes,” Jared hisses softly.
The kiss is sweet and chaste and Jensen forces himself to pull away, to not ravish Jared on his parents’ living room carpet. “Hurry, okay?”
“Soon,” Jared nods.
Jensen bites down on the inside of his jaw and pulls away, picking up his bag and heads straight for the door. If he doesn’t leave now, he never will. He almost trips over Chad when he walks out and rolls his eyes, pulling out his phone as he steps around the pain-in-the-ass beta, already calling for a car to pick him up and take him to the hotel in town.
“You need to stay away from him,” Chad says from behind him.
Jensen hangs up with the car service and turns back around, smirking at Chad. “That’s not any of your business. In a few hours, Jared will be my mate.”
“How can you do this to someone like Jared?” Chad asks incredulously.
Reply
“You have your opinions about me,” Jensen replies smoothly. “And I can’t change that. I frankly don’t give a fuck. But this is Jared’s choice. So stay out of it.”
The door opens before Chad can respond and Jared smiles at Jensen, waving at him, then grabs Chad’s wrist and tugs him into the house with a smack to the back of the head. Jensen smiles as he turns back toward the curb to wait for the car.
~~~~~~
Jared holds up one hand as soon as the door closes behind them and before Chad can say anything, Jared beats him to it. “Not a word, man.”
“But, Jared…”
“I’m serious, Chad. It was all a misunderstanding. I love him and he loves me. And I’m having his child.”
“Did you tell him about that?”
“Didn’t have to, he scented it,” Jared flops down on the couch with a sigh, “And he’s thrilled about it, before you say anything else.”
“How can you be this naïve?” Chad asks softly.
“I’m not,” Jared replies with a shrug. “You don’t know him like I do.” Jared hears his parents’ car in the driveway and turns back to Chad. “Look, I get it, okay? You’re worried. I appreciate it but you don’t have’ta be. Things’re good. Great even.”
“So you’re gonna tell momma and poppa P that the Devil of Dallas is your baby daddy?”
Jared snorts out a laugh and shakes his head. “Oh hell no, they’re still freaked out and praying for my soul because there even is a baby. I’ll tell ‘em later.”
“When this falls to shit, I reserve the right to say I told you so,” Chad says quickly as Jared’s parents push open the front door. Jared glares at his friend, rolling his eyes.
In the end, his parents are as unhappy about him moving back to Dallas as they were about him moving there in the first place. He tries to explain that he’s going there to be with the father of his child - he’s so surprised they still haven’t asked - and even mentions the whole mating thing but they’re still less than supportive. Which is really nothing new.
It takes an hour to talk with his parents and pack up a few things - most of his stuff he left at Jensen’s, hard to take all your stuff when you’re trying to sneak out before sunrise - and he’s nearly breathless with anticipation when he calls Jensen. They don’t stay on the phone long, just enough time for Jared to tell him that he’s ready and for Jensen to tell Jared that he’s sending a car. Chad waits with him outside, pulling him into a hug once the sleek black limo pulls up and Jared promises to call.
He snorts a laugh to himself when he gets into the back of the limo. Even back home, Jensen was never this pretentious. To his surprise, Jensen is waiting outside when they pull up to the curb and Jared doesn’t even take the time to notice the grand hotel they’re walking into, too busy soaking up the feeling of Jensen’s arm around his waist and trying not to whimper at Jensen’s intoxicating scent.
In the elevator, Jensen leans against the back wall, pulling Jared against his chest, his hands sliding down and curving around Jared’s hips. Jensen is staying in the penthouse - of course he is - so the ride up seems to take forever. Which Jared doesn’t actually mind because Jensen doesn’t stop kissing him until the elevator stops and the doors slide open.
Jensen takes his hand, their fingers twining together, and leads him into the main room of the suite. He gently pushes Jared down on the couch and drops a kiss to the top of his head then takes his bag into what he’s guessing is the bedroom. Jensen’s back within moments and he sits down next to Jared, once again grabbing his hand.
“I meant what I said at your parents’ house,” Jensen murmurs. “If you agree, I want you to be my mate. I’ve wanted it for a while now, probably since pretty much the day I met you. But I didn’t think… I should’a brought it up right away.”
“Why’d you wait?” Jared asks softly.
Reply
“I’m sure,” Jared smiles, glancing up at Jensen through his lashes. “I’ve been sure for months.”
Jensen nods and lets out what sounds like a sigh of relief. “You believe me about the other stuff, too, right?”
“Yes,” Jared answers honestly. “And I’m sorry that I listened to everyone else instead of coming to you, giving you a chance to explain.”
“No need to apologize, love,” Jensen murmurs. “Like I said, I know what people say. And up ‘til now, ‘til you, it didn’t matter.” Jensen reaches up with his other hand, two fingers brushing the hair out of Jared’s eyes. “So, what’d’ya say, start over?”
“No,” Jared shakes his head with a smile. “Pick up right where we were. Things were amazing between us, ‘cept for the last few weeks…”
“That won’t happen again,” Jensen cuts in softly.
“If you have to work, you have to work. Just… maybe tell me that? And don’t shut me out?”
“Never again,” Jensen breathes.
“Okay then,” Jared agrees, both of them leaning forward at the same time, their lips sliding together. “Wanna go to bed?” Jared asks softly, words smeared against Jensen’s lips.
“Hell yeah,” Jensen growls.
Jared yelps when Jensen springs up off the couch and picks him up, bridal-style. He half-heartedly slaps at Jensen’s chest but can’t contain his smile at the sound of Jensen’s laughter and the twinkle in his eyes. Since he left Jared at his parents’ house, he must have showered and shaved because he looks much more put together than when he was there.
Jensen gently drops him into the middle of a freaking huge king-sized bed, his grin predatory when he crawls on the mattress after Jared. They meet in the middle, arms and legs tangling together, Jensen’s tongue slipping between Jared’s lips, swirling around and chasing after his own. Jared moans into the kiss, arching into Jensen’s weight holding him down, his fingers digging into Jensen’s back.
“Please,” Jared breathes, pressing his head back into the pillow when Jensen breaks the kiss, arching his neck, begging silently. Jensen dips down and nips at his thundering pulse, sliding his open mouth down the side of his neck, sucking and biting at the stretched tendon, down to the crook of his shoulder. Jensen bites there, growling low in his throat, sucking the tender flesh between his teeth. When they’re tied, that’s where Jensen’s claiming mark will go and Jared can’t fucking wait.
“Naked, now,” Jensen murmurs, tone nothing but a whiskey-rough rumble and Jared’s whole body trembles.
They pull apart long enough to hastily strip out of their clothes. Jensen stops once Jared’s laid out on the mattress, his spread legs around Jensen’s hips, Jensen sitting on his heels between his thighs. Jensen’s eyes go soft and a little liquid and he slides his hands up Jared’s flat stomach, a look of complete awe and reverence on his face. Jared smiles softly, head tilted to the side, silently watching as Jensen touches him but also their child. Those sparkling emerald-green eyes that Jared loves so much flicker up to Jared’s and Jensen shakes his head, blinking slowly.
“I can’t… holy shit,” he breathes. “I’m still kinda stuck on this.”
He’s still moving his hands over Jared’s belly and Jared nods, reaching down to touch as well. “Yeah, me too.” He grabs one of Jensen’s hands, holding it steady. “You sure you’re good with it?”
“Baby, I’m… beyond words.” Jensen leans up, hovering over Jared, their faces even, eyes locked together. “I love you,” he continues softly. “And this is the most amazing, special gift you could ever give me.”
Jared lets go of the rest of the tension that he hadn’t realized he was holding. He wraps his arms around Jensen and pulls him down just enough so that their lips can meet in another heated, desperate kiss. “Now, Jensen,” Jared murmurs. “Need you.”
~~~~~~
Jensen settles down on the mattress at Jared’s side, ignoring the protesting noise from his mate. He’s not sure if it’s possible to hurt the baby - Jesus Christ, a fucking baby, he’s going to be a dad - but he doesn’t want to take the risk. And he’s pretty sure that his weight on top of Jared could probably hurt it.
Jensen hums softly and slides his hand back down spine, stopping just above the swell of his perfect little ass. Jared mewls and nuzzles under his jaw, his hips twitching back. Jensen trails his hand down over one muscular globe, fingers digging in slightly and Jared’s breath hitches. Jared was completely innocent and untouched when they met but from the beginning he’s always been so responsive and eager. Jensen has had a lot of fun teaching him.
Turning his head enough to press a kiss to Jared’s temple, Jensen slips two fingers into the cleft of Jared’s ass, groaning when he feels how wet he is already. “Damn, baby,” Jensen purrs.
Jared gasps and pushes back against the fleeting touch of Jensen’s fingers, his body trembling. “Please, Jen,” Jared begs hoarsely. “’s been so long.”
Jensen closes his eyes and circles his fingers around Jared’s rim, his cock twitching eagerly when the muscle flutters beneath his touch. He knows how Jared feels. For six months, they were together every night. And if Jared has felt like Jensen has during the time they’ve been apart, he highly doubts Jared was touching himself in any way.
Jensen pushes two fingers inside the tight ring of muscle, his jaw clenching at the exquisite wet heat. Jared whines, biting down on his shoulder, thrusting back into his hand. “You, Jen,” he pants. “Just want you. ‘m ready, just do it.”
It’s true. Jared doesn’t really need any kind of prep. As an omega his body is literally made for this, his slick easing the way and his muscles loosening. But Jensen would sooner die than cause Jared any amount of pain.
“Just a little bit, sweetheart,” Jensen murmurs, half-begging.
Jared cuddles closer to Jensen’s chest, his knees squeezing around Jensen’s hips, and Jensen feels him nod against his neck. Jensen wraps his other arm around Jared’s waist and holds him close, slipping a third finger in next to the other two, his arm tightening around Jared when he moans and squirms, trying to get more or deeper or something.
He doesn’t spend as long as he’d really like to prepping Jared. But his own patience is wearing thin and Jared’s whispering ‘please’ over and over again into his ear and Jensen just can’t hold back anymore.
Jared whines when Jensen pulls his fingers out. Jensen doesn’t waste any time grabbing the base of his cock with one hand and urging Jared back onto him with the other. It’s not an ideal position for knotting but Jensen wants to see Jared’s face, be as close as possible, and this way, none of Jensen’s weight could possibly hurt the baby.
Jared pushes back against him, taking Jensen in all the way in one smooth slide. Once he’s in completely, Jared sits up slightly, his lips parting when that manages to push Jensen in just a fraction deeper. Their eyes lock and Jensen smiles, reaching up and cupping Jared’s face. He knew that he missed Jared but it hadn’t really hit him until right now just how much. He spent the time focusing on nothing but tracking him down and getting him back. He didn’t let himself feel how much he missed him.
Jared sighs happily and closes his eyes, rubbing his cheek against Jensen’s palm. He plants his hands against Jensen’s chest and slowly starts to roll his hips and Jensen can’t look away from the bliss painted across his features. Jared is beautiful, always, but like this he’s simply breathtaking.
“Jensen,” Jared moans, his head falling back slightly. “Please. So close.”
Jensen tightens his hold on Jared’s hips and pushes him down, encouraging him to grind down as Jensen pushes up, his knot swelling quickly and Jared cries out when it catches against his rim, tying them together. One hand reaching up, Jensen grabs the back of Jared’s head and pulls him forward, his teeth clamping down on the crook of Jared’s shoulder. The claiming bite pushes them both over the edge at the same time. Jared cries out again, voice hoarse, his untouched cock erupting between their stomachs just as Jensen feels his own release slam into him, all his senses overwhelmed with everything Jared.
He loses track for a few moments, nothing else mattering besides the pleasure coursing through his body and his trembling mate in his arms. When he comes back to himself, Jared is boneless against his chest, his head turned so that it’s resting on Jensen’s shoulder, the bite mark still bleeding sluggishly. Jensen turns his head and presses a kiss to Jared’s forehead, smiling when hazy hazel eyes flutter open to look up at him.
“You okay?” Jensen asks softly.
“Mmhmm,” Jared hums lazily. “Wanna sleep then go home.”
“Of course, sweetheart,” Jensen murmurs, snuggling Jared in impossibly closer. “Whatever you want.”
