So, there was a headline on MSNBC tonight - "Oil company execs defend high pump prices". So out of morbid curiousity and the need to yell at the computer, I clicked on it. Blah, blah, blah. It's a smokescreen for the most part. The best part of the article is this - O'Reilly said. "But absent the hurricanes, I'm optimistic" that prices will not spike this summer. Absent hurricanes. Sooooo. . . should there be no hurricanes this hurricane season (presumably in the Gulf Coast, since the article focused on them) there won't be a price spike. Huh. Let's look at the records. In the last 100 years there have been 40 major hurricanes to hit the gulf coast - major being over category 3. So, if we're lucky, there's only a 40% chance that the gulf coast will get hit with a hurricane. Of category 3 or better. The gulf coast is like a big, grandmother with open arms and cookies waiting for hurricanes! I don't think there's a better place for hurricanes to form! Actually I'm just tirading there. I don't actually know if there's a better place, but I know that the warm water of the Gulf makes it a hurricane spa.
So, just remember, if there are no hurricanes this hurricane season, gas prices won't spike. But then again, he never said the Gulf Coast specifically, so they could still spike if there's a hurricane in the Canary Islands. Oy.
I want an electric car. And a wind turbine to provide me with the electricity.
