Summary: For the fairy tale prompt. Ridiculously AU.
The fairies of the kingdom were all atwitter on the day of Prince Samuel's christening. They buzzed and fluttered around the great hall, chattering with excitement. After all, there hadn't been a celebration so large since Prince Dean's christening almost four years earlier. One by one, the fairies flitted up to the dias to bestow their gifts on the smiling infant; beauty, intelligence, strength, and a host of other princely qualities.
Just after the final fairy had made the final offering to the young prince (height) but before the King had had a chance to say more than three words of his thank you speech, a dark figure burst into the room. All eyes recognized the evil fairy Azazel, who had not been invited to the party. Queen Mary gasped. The guards started forward to escort the fairy from the castle, but he stopped them with a wave of his hand.
"I don't mean to intrude on your happy gathering, highnesses," he crooned, "but I have a gift for the child, just as I promised I would." Pulling out his magic wand, he began to weave a spell over the young prince. "I give him power. The power of Hell will run through his veins and all of Hell's creatures will be subject to his will. Your son will be a great man, one day. Perhaps the greatest man left on Earth." Then, with a malevolent cackle, Azazel disappeared in a cloud of black smoke.
The king begged his guests to use their magic to save Prince Samuel, but their hands were tied. A fairy is only allowed to give each human one gift, and they had all already done so. Some fairies opined that King John should immediately kill his younger son, rather than allow him to grow into an evil man. Others suggested that he send out search parties to find some other magical being capable of undoing Azazel's curse.
Finally, the youngest fairy (the one who had given the baby the gift of height) spoke up, "Your highness, I was not invited to Prince Dean's christening," she announced.
The king was flabbergasted. "Are you saying that you'd like to take this opportunity to curse my older son for our rudeness?"
"You misunderstand. Because I was not invited to Prince Dean's christening, I did not give him a gift. However - I could give him one now."
The king, enlightened, nodded and called his first-born forward.
"Prince Dean," said the fairy, "I give you the gift of love...love strong enough to banish the darkness in your brother's soul and to inspire you to keep fighting for him long after everyone else has given up."
