My major disgruntlement is the implication that Josie saved Henry because she was in love with him - and I'm just a little tired of that trope, especially as she is the only Woman of Letters. There was that earlier conversation about how Henry had a family so I think it was ambiguous enough that I can choose to believe that is just what the demon thought and that Josie saved Henry because she thought he had more people relying on him.

Well now you know!

I had to check twitter to get any details. It sounds like it was a pretty good episode with lots of stuff that sounds up my alley. Looking forward to checking it out and maybe trying to get some discussion going later.

I was a little surprised at the lack of comments, but I definitely enjoyed the episode. It set up some interesting things regarding souls and Abaddon, had interesting side characters, had a MOTW that turned into an episode directly intersected with the main plot (and I love when the show used to do that), and as I said, I haven't seen the last couple of episodes so I was definitely intrigued by what's happening with Dean re: Mark of Cain.

Bless you nonnies.

Misha did a good job with this. There's only one spot where I wish a shot had been held a little longer before going to break or a cut to scene.

And the more I see of Henry, the more I think Sam resembles him, so good casting there.

Well we got some good Sam close-ups and next week we get Dean in the shower and angry Sam.

I don't have a problem with Josie sacrificing herself for Henry's welfare for whatever reason. I didn't take it as necessarily romantic love and agree with the nonnie leaning on the explicit contrast of Henry having a family to live for. Whatever. Any excuse will do to illustrate the point of what a willing sacrifice of self for another costs. The show positively loves that "Take ME!" theme. (I love it too - not romantically, though.)
The parallels between S9 Dean and S4 Sam are beyond coincidental and that satisfies me as well.

This was a lot better than last week, but man, I feel like the plotting is really slapdash these days.
