If SPN were about Deanna and Samantha Winchester saving people and hunting things--with a predominantly genderbent supporting cast--how would the fandom take shape?

Fandom would be much smaller. Proportionally, there would be more het fic.

I'm only here because this show is the best fetish fuel and the constant abuse leveled at female characters would be squicky beyond belief to me, so I just wouldn't be in the fandom.

IMO, there would probably be more? I mean, more fanservice, that's for sure, S and D would be wearing revelaing clothes an having seminaked scenes more often.

Maybe less violence against the protagonists? But I'm not sure, some female characters have received torture, abuse and stuff too.

For me, no. There's a whole lot of kinks I can't kink on with characters of my own gender, either because I need the distancing of having that particular avenue of identification blocked (I can't read noncon or dubcon with female victims, for instance) or for the much more shallow reason that it's men I'm attracted to so it's men I want to imagine in a lot of sexual situations.

I engage with female characters very strongly and there are plenty of canons where they are my favorites, but I engage with them in different ways and don't produce or consume kinkfic or idfic about them in many of the ways or to anything like the extent I do with male characters.

Depends. Would there also be some hot guys?

There would be a femslash fandom and possibly a Buffy/Spike-style het ship with Deanna or Sam and a demon dude, or a Buffy/Faith-style femslash ship with a demon and there would be Deanna/Castiela the angel. Wincest would also exist but I'm not sure how big that would be compared to other ships.There's femslash and 'cest in Sleepy Hollow, so I think a genre show like SPN with female leads would have an ongoing fandom, but not as huge as SPN as it is now.

I wonder if there would be much Wincest if only one of the Winchesters was genderswapped.

Much less likely, and there will also be much less % of genderswap fic if Wincest is a het ship.

It would depend on the chemistry between the actresses. If it were as strong as the one between J2, the fandom would be bigger than Xena/Gabrielle.
