I don't get the fuss about Purgatory and Sam stealing Dean's scenes. LOL what did they want? Purgatory was a very basic, simple thing. You fight monsters 24/7. That's it. I could be pissed if Sam and only Sam got to find old familiar faces, monsters from earlier seasons, or what was my initial, but naive, suspiction: Mary. But all they did was slaughter monsters. yeah, they sold it as if Purgatory was the worst place possible, but really?
And I don't see what's the supossed character growth Dean did in Purgatory. Unless by character growth one understands the showrunners' attempt at making a unidimensional and simplistic Dean that served the purpose of playing his role as contrast to normal life!Sam. Even in theory, it was supossed to be PTSD, not 'character growth'.
But, you know, I'd be pretty sad (and I am, anyway) if Dean got to go to Hell again, and it had zero consequences and he wasn't really affected by it.
Again, I'm a Dean!girl that never wanted to see him saying yes to Michael, and can't see how that would have meant anything epic. During s5 I was really afraid that Dean would end up saying yes, and that was so disappointing, imo, that never this show made me happier than the moment Dean said Zacharias to fuck off and stabbed him in the face. So I guess I'm not a good Dean!girl.
This season is being shitty, but I think it's not much better for sam than it is for Dean.

Please, don't bite me. I typed a long-ass comment and you pick on a tiny phrase. I think this season was really bad ffor Sam, but I'm not enjoying this version of Dean either, so I don't know who got the shorter straw, tbh. Maybe there's no longer straw in s8.

I've been rewatching DS9, and I swear, juggling a fairly large ensemble cast they still give pretty much everyone more than Spn is managing to give the two friggin' characters who are onscreen for massive parts of every single episode. In a weird way it takes genius to achieve what they do.

Cas and Kevin got the long straws.
I agree, they've managed to pack a lot of meaty stuff into a short amount of screen time. Hell, even Benny had more interesting stuff in his few episodes. I still think it's because Carver et al (Edlund, Glass) seem to be more interested in the supernatural beings (even Kevin is not a normal human) than the regular people. The regular people this season have gotten the shaft or mediocre, surface-deep episodes (or they are just not there, like Jody)

After their third date, they go back to Garth's boat and have sweet vanilla sex under the covers with the lights off. The light bulbs explode anyway when Cas comes.

(And I am the nonnie who made that comment about Cas and Kevin getting the long straws, and having my show bitterness transmuted into milkshake sharing is balm to my spirit.)
Shipping them now a bit.

Are you me? Dean saying NO was the most Dean Winchester thing he did all season five. It was glorious.

I think some who are bitter about that are thinking of it from an acting standpoint; for Dean I much preferred the saying no, for Jensen I would have loved to see Michael!Dean (caveat that I am a Samgirl and thus by definition doing being a Deangirl wrong).

Yep, I'd just really have liked to see Jensen play Michael. This could also explain why I'm drawn to fics where Dean never said yes to Michael, but he does find out he's fallen (like Anna) and was Michael all along.

Agreed. Saying yes would have been terrible and (for me) unDeanlike.
