Reverse Bang, how is it going? anonymous September 12 2012, 11:43:15 UTC
Still 4-5 days to go before the deadline! (Monday 17th)
How is it going, nonnies?

Are you submitting one or two prompts? Are you satisfied with your art/ideas so far?

I'm an author, not an artist, but I am super excited about RBB this year! It was nerve-wracking doing the choosing last time, but I had a great experience with my artist and thought the process was a lot of fun

Good luck, artist nonnies!

Another author here. This is my first year, and I'm so excited to see the prompts. I have no particular thoughts about what sort of thing I want to claim; I'm just going to look at everything and see what speaks to me. Next week can't come fast enough.

This artist is nervous after seeing all the incredible talent that signed up. I wish I'd looked first. Last time I did this there weren't so many big names. I'm mediocre at best. D:
I'm not really worried about whether I get picked last or not(which is likely) but for my own pride I'd like for it to be at least presentable. Which at the moment, it's not and really has no hope of being but I hate dropping out of commitments. So, ugly art it is! Sorry authors! If it helps I'm really easy to work with.

Aw, it's okay nonnie. And to be honest, quality isn't always what people select pieces off of. I'm sure your art is much better than you think (we are our own worst critic, after all) but what matters is that you have a solid, interesting idea behind your piece. I'd pick an interesting, mediocre prompt over a beautifully rendered but bland one.

Thanks. I feel a little better. :D
I'm not sure how interesting the idea is. It wasn't even my original plan. It's the back-up, easier to draw, plan.
I feel it's pretty specific, which makes me even more nervous about it.

As an author, I'm going for the art that most inspires a story from me. An artist can be the most amazing in the world, but if they are drawing something totally random that I can't write a story about, then it's no use to me. Like, Petite-Madame (who I adore) draws some stuff that I would never try to claim, because I just wouldn't know what to write!

Anyway, take heart, nonnie, I'm sure someone will pick you, and if you easy to work with, then you should have a great experience :D

Thanks nonnie. I hope you find something to inspire you! And I hope I get someone who wants to enjoy the experience along with me.

I adore Petite-Madame! When I become a real artist I want to be like hir. ;D

NA (and OP of this thread)

You are already a real artist, nonnie.
Don't underestimate yourself.
If you are not sure about what you are drawing, you can still ask for some help to a beta? And if I may, better one very good prompt on which you worked a lot that two average prompts.

In addition, like the other nonnie said, it's the scenario behind your art that is important not the art itself. You can have a very beautiful art but if it's "just" a portrait of Dean that doesn't tell any story, it won't inspire a lot of authors. What is important is the pairing, the scenario, the characters, the setting, etc..not really the quality of the art even if OF COURSE it's an important factor (but not the most important IMO)

Anyway, good luck to you and don't worry about the claim ♥

Aw, thanks nonnie.

I could ask for help from a beta, although I know what's wrong with it. LOL. I just haven't the skills yet, or the time to fix it!

I'm just having a bout of self-pity, because the art I wanted to do, and worked on for weeks fell apart at the painting stage. My idea was beyond my capabilities and I'm frustrated.
I realised last week that I wasn't going to have time to learn enough to fix it so had to do something else, that I think is a bit lame and now I can't even make it look right. It's like a double whammy of, I suck!
Oh well, I'm determined to enjoy this challenge, despite my shortcomings and will work on the original idea for another challenge. Maybe next reverse bang!

Thanks to all for the hand-holding, it's very appreciated.

I only submitted my early bird piece so far (probably won't do a second one) and I have to say it's pretty crappy compared with my usual efforts so I'm totally in the 'let's just have fun' mode /o\

It was GOING to be two, because the first one is a bit specific, I think, but I'm not going to get another one done in time. Unless I kind of bashed something out and fixed it up later, but I don't wanna risk it.

So while I like the picture I submitted, I'm going to be watching a little nervously in case no writer thinks they can work with it.
