If they're not interested, they should drop out well ahead of time so I have time to find someone who is. If they don't have time, if they're sick, they should drop out and take care of themselves and their personal life first. RL > online, always. I mean, I don't care about my artist's skill, I care that they care. That's it. That's all. Is that too much to ask? My writing can't really be this bad, can it?
Note: I think my artist is probably a good person and I do not want to hurt her feelings, thus the nonnie meme. I'm just incredibly frustrated. I keep thinking that this year I will get someone who cares, but they never do.

Nonnie, next time hook up with an artist before the bang. Do you have any on your flist?

:(
This makes me sad. Embracing the spirit of the bang shouldn't mean you get the shaft.

I was going to do that this year, but I got claimed before my friend had time to claim me. I thought that meant interest! Apparently not.

True, but I feel like at least a pinch hitter would CARE. Somewhat.

I am not 100 percent without drawing skills, and sometimes I think illustrating another person's story would be a lot of fun, but I don't do it because I would be poring months of work into a single piece (partly because that's my style, partly because I'm rusty but also a perfectionist and I know I would be spending a lot of time on drafts/making sure the base sketch was fine/practicing with whatever media I chose, because I scoff at forgiving ones, partly because I'd be terrified of disappointing the writer). Also, I have zero digital skills, and I'd rather be writing!
But I think maybe some people just don't realize exactly how much investment they'll need to put in? People more skilled that I wouldn't need to work as hard as I would, but it's still can be a major effort. Someone might think they only need ___ amount of time to make a banner, and then go "crap." Maybe?

Maybe so. :( I just wish it hadn't happened to me every year!
Also: You sound really dedicated, nonnie, and it is a lucky writer so is claimed by you should you ever decide to sign up for a challenge after all. :D

I agree with the author. I spent forever on my BB and was lucky enough to have an artist who obviously also put a lot of time into their work. Why sign up if you don't care?

The art is not a reward you ~deserve for finishing your fic though. Also you should consider that the artists have a lot less time - some of us would also like to spend 'forever' on the art but we simply don't have the five months.
Reply
Maybe not, but we do have a clearly defined amount of time that we know about in advance so, unless RL intervenes (which of course it can very easily), it's not like an artist could be taken by surprise by not having as much time as the writers.

Well nonnie, I get your frustration, I'm also disappointed if authors don't give a fuck and wish people would drop out if they can't do it, for whatever reason - the pinch hitters also have more time that way. I still like the idea of indicating the wanted degree of collaboration with the summaries that was brought up on meme.

However, (it happens sometimes) you can have a lack of motivation that happens, just like that, a kind of art block. You were very enthusiastic and involved and suddenly, nothing. It doesn't mean that you have to let your author down but it can be one of the reasons why, sometimes, people only turn down crap. :/
